Football Transfers Thread

I just wish RVP leaves Arsenal. He's 28, is an injury-prone player, and just one standout season does not really save him. Also he can go really missing for some important games.

Just hoping that Arsenal sell him for a good price, with which hopefully they can sign a world-class player.

Meh, he'll end up at failing wherever he goes due to injuries. We sure as hell weren't going to win the title this coming season with or without him, so sell him now to get some other guys. Sign someone like Doumbia if CSKA reduce their price, very quick with a great finish.

His best chance of winning a title is probably Juve. So we know if he goes to PSG or Man City why indeed he is leaving, and what the disagreement is, the wage structure.

I suppose this really is the end of Wenger's youth project. It was a decent strategy to try when the club were in debt due to the stadium, but really it isn't going to work now. Next season it'll be Walcott and Song.

Speaking of Walcott, he said he is leaving if RVP leaves. That means Vermaelen and Arteta are now our top scorers:rolleyes.

Anyway looks like within five years Arsenal will be in Liverpool's position. Every decent player will leave, as this is sending a message to all these players.

The fact is though, at Arsenal, the system revolves around him. Everyone wants to pass to him, and he gets a tonne of shots. Also, in other games where he's had some great finishes, often he's missed sveral other shots that were glaring misses that didn't even test the keeper. He'll be in the box and hit it into the crowd.

So really all these things and the injuries will ensure he never has another 30-goal season in his life, and also I very much doubt he'll score 20 ever again.

Still, gratitude to him for not announcing his decision till after we signed Podolski and Giroud. Now we know why they were signed so early.

Yeah because he doesn't have a chance of winning the title with the current league champions...

Man City are a big, ambitious club now with silverware to back them up. They have better players, better infrastructure and bigger ambitions than Arsenal. Not every player is going to go them simply for the money.

He can see the way all the other players who went to City have failed. He also knows he'll possibly be hated (or close to it) by the supporters of the club he supposedly is a lifelong fan of if he goes to City. Also think of the problems that would be caused at Arsenal if he went to City, with the players already there and all. To his supposedly favourite club...

The obvious reason therefore that he would go to City over Juve is the money. Plus, add to that the fact that Juve don't really have any top strikers, and City have Aguero (who I think will have a better season than RVP no matter where he is next season), Tevez and Balotelli. He'd basically be handed a winners medal by being one of the minor members of the squad IF they win, whereas at Juve he would earn the medal by contributing a significant amount to the team.

Plus, add to that the fact that his father has said he wouldn't want RVP at City. It isn't what makes his decision, what his father says, but still, all these little things add up.

Interesting article on the matter.

Oh and if he wanted to play for a successful team likely to win silverware, with other great attackers around him like he would at Man City, he would be off to Barca or Madrid surely.

If he thought long and hard about it I'm sure he wants to see himself in Toronto tornadoes or New england rookies or those MLS teams in a couple of years. Not many Arsenal guys made it large after they left the team.

Pitch Curse? lol, wenger is a boss.

Players who've gone from Arsenal to City have failed? Didn't Nasri get more assists in his first season at City than he did in any season at Arsenal? He wasn't amazing by any stretch of imagination but he still did relatively well and a return of 9 assists and 5 goals is still very good figures for a team filled with creative talent.

Why would he be hated if he went to City? Hated for showing ambition, wanting to play with better players and compete for more trophies? Maybe it's possible he likes living in England and doesn't want to move to another country?

The thing with van Persie is, he's one of the few world class players available in the transfer window but I just don't see him fitting into many top tier teams. Great player who doesn't suit most of the systems played.

You honestly think after the trasnfers of Fabregas, Nasri, Adebayor, etc, that the bitter Arsenal fans would like him if he went to City:facepalm? Not something you'd want from the club you supposedly love. The fact is though, the fans have every right to be angry. Had it not been for Wenger and Arsenal standing by him through his injuries when we could've bought better (i.e. someone who didn't take up all the space in the treatment room) he'd be asking for change on the streets of Rotterdam. One good season and he leaves... Also complete rubbish if you think Arsenal can't challenge for titles in the next three to four seasons while he'll still be here. 20 points below without our best midfielder from last season and with a terrible start. It's a young squad, and with some signings it can get much closer. If he goes to City, it is for money. No way around it. May be for titles too, but really Juve and Utd could also offer titles, also Chelsea. He is going there and it will be for money.

Nasri barely fits into the City first team and is easily the weak link. He will be gone very soon. First time I'm hearing anyone say he actually did well, come on. Look at the seasons all the other City attacking players had, even Tevez who was on holiday half the time had a bigger impact. He would've had a permanent spot on the bench if Hazard was signed, that's obvious. Adebayor massively failed and Toure failed his drugs test and deteriorated as a player also. Clichy wasn't that great at Arsenal either and continued it to City.

RVP is one of the few, yes. But guys like Higuain and Fernando Llorente should be much more in demand. I'd be happy if we sold RVP and got one of them, I'm sure City or Utd or whoever would take either of them as well.

Though I suppose he does have Premier League experience and is such a creative forward. Nevertheless, the team revolves around him at Arsenal and he gets limitless opportunities. That fact and how injury prone he is will ensure he fails wherever he goes.

I don't want him at Arsenal another season. Highest bidder gets him I say. I hope to god that isn't Man Utd, Chelsea or City though.

I'd love United to go for RVP.

I don't think we need another striker - he'd cost what: ?30m? Wouldn't that be better spent on a holding midfielder? We still haven't sorted out a ball winner for next season - I'm not sure if that's Jones' best position.
