Football Transfers Thread

Vertonghen is a brilliant signing.

Oh and all these links about Lewandowski and Jovetic to Arsenal are complete bull, talk about the media creating stories as soon as RVP announces his decision... Even Chelsea will have great difficulty getting Jovetic, but they should get him in the end, and Man Utd can't get Lewandowski.

We'll end up signing someone like Dempsey. We can easily beat Liverpool in both wages and transfer fee. Would be a good signing as he could potentially play at AM, ST or the wings, and do it well and whilst giving 100%. Plus someone like Benayoun, also a good signing.

Fletcher is an excellent striker and a great replacement for Bendtner. Deserves PL football.

Dempsey's 29, and turns 30 this season. Wouldn't be a good long term buy for you.

IMO, you should get a Higuain or Doumbia, although its less likely.

Gut feeling says Tottenham will finish ahead of Arsenal this season. If they can snap up Oscar from Internacional, then their XI is all but complete.

Just so you know, Kenny was a big fan of Clint Dempsey, not Rodgers.

Rodgers would definitely not go behind a ageing target like him. He usually would chase a long-term helping target.

And Oscar recently claimed that he is quite happy at Internacional, so a deal doesn't seem close at all.

AVB is definitely a good boss, it just wasn't his time when he managed Chelsea. Shouldn't be surprised to see them as title contenders in 3-4 seasons, if things work out well for him.

Yeah Spurs 4th Arsenal 5th. It's Arsenal though, so you never know, we can pull a CL place somehow. I have a feeling though RVP's departure won't have much of an impact though... Someone will step up just like when Cesc left.

Dempsey would still be a good buy IMO. The last time we bought a 30ish year old from a premier league club it was Arteta, and that turned out great. We need immediate talent, Dempsey is decent and very much in our price range. Plus he's American, a true fighter. Every team needs someone like that. Even if not a first team player, the perfect squad player. It's great for a team to have someone like that come off the bench. Anyway we have a lot of great young players to come through so an aging Dempsey isn't much of an issue, the likes of Ox and Wilshere should be great by the time we think of dumping him.

Must just be the media then, a lot of places linking Dempsey to Liverpool. Really, without CL football, you don't have much to choose from. Hell, Dempsey may not even see Liverpool as much of a step up, look at the league table. Even someone like Dembele who is very good would be very tough to snatch. Very little to choose from so Dempsey would be a good signing for you anyway, you need goals. You were about to sign a goalscoring midfielder in Sigurdsson, Dempsey was one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the league last season.

It's all very well and good buying players with potential, but Liverpool and Arsenal need guys who can deliver now. Plenty of time for youth to come through.

Pretty much been the perfect window so far for Spurs. A young manager, Bale tied down, and a new central midfielder who scores goals coupled with the Dutch champions player of the season.

I read a little while ago that Ganso was someone Spurs had first refusal on. If so, that would be a superb signing. That would make them better than Chelsea surely.

Leandro Damiao is another Olympic wonderkid being linked to Spurs, he would also be a good signing.

Though a lot of it depends on AVB himself. I very much believe that he was given 80 m for transfers. Good enough personnel should come in, the question is whether he can get them playing amazing like he did with Porto, or poorly like with Chelsea.

With Bielsa gone at Bilbao, perhaps a raid on Bilbao is in order too?

Other than the usual Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente, guys like De Marcos and Muniain will be huge.

Muniain would be an amazing buy. Is young, and can fluently play out wide as well as a striker. And can also be a second striker.

Bielsa resigned? There's no official confirmation expect that from ESPN, and ESPN's becoming as poor as goal.com

Had a look and I believe Hoilett has to live and work in England for five years. I assume this means he needs a professional contract for this long (he already spent four years in the youth team). So since he spent two years on loan in Germany since signing his first professional contract, he will be eligible for England in two years.

Fair decision then to stay in England and wait. Can be a very good player for England. If he is available for the World Cup, no chance of Downing again.

If we weren't so well off in the winger department, I'd say we should sign him. :) Let's hope he sticks it out for England.

True but he'll probably end up resigning I feel.

Shows they aren't really getting Hulk. Plus I think they'll really need to pay big to get Jovetic.

Looks like Di Matteo has no interest in Hulk and it was Abramovich playing FM.
