Santos' Ganso the fallen star - ESPN Soccernet

Interesting article on Ganso. Very true and unfortunate for him, though I reckon he'll still be a star, albeit not at the levels Neymar will reach and Oscar could reach.

It's funny really. I'm sure a month or two ago almost no-one knew who Oscar was. Now he is an incredibly hot property and the top midfield talent in Brazil. Better than Lucas Moura who seems to dribble pointlessly far too much at this stage.

Manchester United close in on Lucas Moura deal - ESPN Soccernet

On the topic of Lucas Moura, there he is. Would be a good squad player, but I don't see a space for him. Kagawa and Rooney behind the striker, and Nani, Young and Valencia on the wings. Anyway wouldn't cut it just yet in the Prem, definitely abuses the extra space on offer in Brazil, and dribbles far too often when passing or shooting would be a better option. He'll learn in time.

ESPN is looking incredibly dodgy recently, and I think both all the stuff about Carroll, Lucas and Oscar backs this up.

Idiotic to loan out Carroll.

Sell him or fit him in.

Loan out Henderson if anything.

Agreed on Carroll, but I'm afraid he just doesn't fit in Rodgers' system. Would have been a bench warmer here anyway.

Also would be idiotic to loan out Hendo. With Gerrard and Aquilani often getting injured nowadays, Hendo and Lucas will be extremely vital for us this season.

Just hoping we can sell Charlie Adam, Downing for tidy figures.

Ganso is the second-lowest paid player in Santos, that fact is shocking. I doubt whether its the truth though.

Just because he is needed doesn't mean he won't benefit from time elsewhere. It could do him a lot of good to grow elsewhere for a season in perhaps a similar system with far less pressure on him. He is of the age where such a move would really benefit him. Carroll I feel is too old for it.

Sign someone else to cover him. Dempsey looks as good as yours, maybe someone like Benayoun would be available too, very good and hard-working squaddy.

Adam and Downing won't get crap and I'm sure the club wouldn't be happy selling them for the low fees they would receive. Keep them another season to give them a chance.

Makes sense. He would've signed on to his current contract maybe 3-4 seasons ago, as a 18 or 19 year old. He would've been nothing but a bright kid back then, so even the quoted figure of 125 K a month is a lot for such a player.

He is moving because he is offended that he isn't being treated as well as Neymar, and hasn't even been offered a contract when Neymar has been offered a bumper deal. So makes sense that he still has that lacklustre deal.

I would definitely expect Ganso to be low paid since he is very young and has been injured more than he's actually delivered.

I like that you didn't mention the part where he rubbishes complaints of tiredness ;)

Ha you can't be serious my friend.

Mata for one would have the luxury of a winter break in Spain with Valencia while playing in far less competitions as he did in his 1st season in England. While he has has generally been an unused sub for Spain in Confed Cup 09, WC 2010 and EURO 12.

Only the EURO Under-21 championship and last season with Chelsea would Mata have really played hectic football. So i would think he has much gas in the tank left to play in the Olympics.

Otherwise agreed the Mail is not the best paper. But i would say their writer Mr Samuels is one the best football writers in England, along with BBC's Phil McNulty - so i just check them out mainly to see what he may say on a specific topic.

Oh dear :( I'd rate Phil as one of the poorest journalists going and I'd say in just one page that you linked to he has posted a load of rubbish in regards to Samuels. Still, allowed to differ ;)

Interesting, so who would you say is top football journalist in our British media?

To be honest I barely pay attention to the names anymore. I just judge what I read on the content. BBC though are one of the few where I know who I'm reading. About the only person I actively seek out is Tim Vickery who generally presents an interesting view on South American football.

McNulty I find often just rehashes the obvious. His insight is normally minimal and he's more of a reporter than anything of critical value.

Essentially, most of the British football press are fairly poor though. It's sensationalist and self-pandering on far too many occasions.

Hi guys :) Can anyone tell me more about former Everton FC player Joao Silva, who became LEVSKI Sofia player yesterday :)

Well i guess this is a fair assessment overall of our press.

Although I agree McNulty doesn't write any new, i think many times in the last decade when the media has overhyped the team en route to various tournaments and etc - McNulty and Samuels to me are the two most prominent ones to write sense in the pile of crap that gets regurgitated.

PSG closing on deal for AC Milan duo Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva - ESPN Soccernet

Unbelievable really. Milan just digging themselves their own grave(s). Playing XI's an absolute mess ATM.

Ye pretty shocking that. PSG about to do a Man City here.

Great signings, and I can see them easily making the quarters of the CL. I reckon only Juve, Barca, Real, Utd and City are stronger than them supposing that the signings go to plan.

Bit ridiculous though. Wasn't a bid of 40 m in pounds rejected for Thiago Silva, but now 47 m for the both of them? Do Milan really value Ibra at just 7 m? Or maybe it was 40 m in euros for Thiago Silva?

Still, I'm sure the idea of Ibra still excites Mourinho. Wouldn't be suprised if he had a try at signing Ibra too.
