Football Transfers Thread

Really there is a high chance all of those Brazilian targets will be a failure. They are all fairly flashy players that have tonnes of space to skill and dribble in Brazil. When they come to the Prem they'll get none and they'll definitely be pushed out wide from their current central spots, plus they'll struggle to make an immediate impact.

Out of all of them though, Lucas Moura is the most puzzling. So bloody much (I thought United never buy:rolleyes) for an unneeded player who won't have an immediate impact and could end up failing horrendously.

Ganso is too slow for the PL. Yes, certain players can play in the PL at a slow pace, but not him, his play style needs pace in the PL.

Oscar is the sort of player most likely to succeed, but then again, he has only really been well known for a short time, his ability in the last half season alone does not merit a 30 m transfer.

Neymar is certain to be a star. Again, may not work out though. You'd expect the next Ronaldo at his price, but I very much doubt he is near Ronaldo's level let alone Messi's.

Meh, I've been hearing about FFP for years now. I don't take it seriously and obviously all clubs in the Prem bar Arsenal don't either.

Thorgan Hazard very likely to move to Chelsea. Perhaps this means no Brazilian wonderkid?

Nah, who am I kidding, they'll get Hazard, Oscar and Willian. Also Lucas Moura for the reserves just so Utd don't get him:p.

There was also rumours at the start of the transfer window that they wanted to sign Callejon and made a big bid, somewhere in the region of 15-19M pounds.

They need to learn a lot from their cross-town rivals.

Meanwhile, Liverpool try to lure Joe Allen from Swansea for 15 m.

This football club is a joke. Kenny may not have been the problem after all. I don't see the reason for this over reliance on British players, and also 15 m is probably triple what Allen is really worth.

This.

I give up really. :facepalm

Nah we bid only 7m pounds for Callejon, pretty sure of that.

As it is, Fabio Borini is this season's third most expensive signing in the Premier League (as of now). And to think we're bidding 19m euros (15m pounds) for Joe Allen, when United captured two times Bundesliga player of the season, Kagawa for just 15m euros........ I need not say no more. :facepalm

The lack of Champions League but the want for high class British players really makes it tough to get a bargain.

Dempsey will be a good signing though.

There are lots of players that are better than Allen. And they definitely would be available cheaper.

If they are chasing English players, they need to chase quality ones. Not players who had one good season at a club with a good system of football.

but liverpool have recently had a takeover and are a huge worldwide brand. They have money and everybody knows it, so they can't really get bargains.

Most of our recent signings have been from clubs who either don't want that player any more and want him off the wage bill or are in worse final positions than us. they know we won't pay over the odds and we literally can't afford to pay over the odds anyway. we've missed out on a few players because of this hard bargaining, but we've generally found somebody else anyway. (the moutino failure and fellaini purcahse, but then we overpaid for fellaini, because standard knew we had offered that much for moutinho)

the one time we've had money to spend (i.e. selling lescott for >20 mil) we spunked 9 million of it on bily.

Triggering release clauses, buying misfits at bigger clubs and buying guys on their last year of contract is an easy way for Liverpool to get some great bargains. Instead, they go for a smaller team's best player with years left on his contract and no release clause. Carroll and Allen show how badly such moves can go.

Man Utd just tried to spend 38 m on Lucas Moura, yet they still got Kagawa for something like 12 m, when they could've easily got over double that...

There are tons of other players to chase other than their so called 'British' targets. Real have Sahin and Diarra, Valencia have Banega just to quote a few examples.

Don't assume that any of those players have any desire to go and play for Liverpool though. They'd probably rather sit on the Real bench living it up in Madrid.

i'm not defending liverpool's transfer policy and not saying allen at that price is a good signing. i'm just saying you can't compare it to ours.

Valencia just signed Fernando Gago for ?3.5 million. Now that's how you pull off a bargain signing, Liverpool!

Edit:

Valencia - Fernando Gago + Sergio Canales = ?11.5 million
Man United - Shinji Kagawa + Nick Powell = ?22.5 million
Arsenal - Lukas Podolski + Olivier Giroud = ?25 million
Liverpool - Fabio Borini + Joe Allen (should the move materialize) = ?32 million

Brilliant! :)

Fernando Gago isn't that great. Didn't turn out as expected at all for Real. Canales I'm not convinced by either. Very nice deals from Arsenal and Man Utd though.

Liverpool are just attractive a location as Spurs, hell, they are more attractive than Spurs due to prestige and history. Why can't Liverpool at least TRY to go after similar targets. I very much doubt Spurs will get any of the players they are being linked with, like Moutinho, Lloris, Cazorla, Sahin or Afellay. But seriously, you never know, a guy like Vertonghen may come along who HAS to play for your club.

Anyway, regardless, Dempsey should be a very solid signing, great goalscoring record in the PL from midfield and decent assist record. People don't seem very excited, but I'm sure if he was Brazilian and his name was Dempsinho and he was putting up similar numbers in Spain or Italy, clubs like Chelsea and Man City would be chasing him.

Overall though, British players are complete trash.

Btw Clyne has moved to Southampton.

Great move, he is not yet Man Utd quality and would barely play for them, whereas he is sure to start for Southampton. Will have the opportunity to go to Man Utd later anyway if he is ready.
