Really?

Maybe 5 years ago, not now,

Gerrards game is based now on 50 yard diagonal passes

Surely you not stating this based on the many long, diagonal passes he made with England at the EUROs?. Surely it was obvious he only did this because of the lack of quality and rigidity of England's style of play during that tournament?

Having said that i would agree he is no longer in "world-class" category. He is passed his ulitmate peak for sure, but clearly is still a top-class mid-fielder.

He's stating that because for England he has spent years hitting diagonal 50 yard hollywood passes. It worked for Liverpool in the Premiership because teams don't really keep possession that well.

Don't get me wrong, one of the best midfielders of the Premiership and much better than Lampard... but for me Gerrard would have been an awesome holding midfielder who can also score and burst from deep. Only in England would he have been considered the support striker that he almost occupied.

Apparently, Man Utd have emerged as favourites to sign RvP (that's only the Mirror though) but also that RvP has stated that he'd rather go to Utd than City (that's The Times. The man clearly has taste :p ).

The thing is - do we really need him? What we have been crying out for over the past few seasons (and I know I sound like a broken record :D ) is a ball winning midfielder, someone to add some more steel to the midfield!

Another thing - Sir Alex has once again come out in support of the Glazers. Please - before the Glazers, we would've said to Arsenal: '?20m/25m for RvP? Done'. Now, what do we bid? ?10m. That's insulting to Arsenal if you ask me.

Whatever happens, I hope he doesn't end up in Sky Blue next season and despite what he says, and what the Times say, I can't see him in a Utd shirt - at least not straight from Arsenal. Still, you never know. I just think the money would be better spent elsewhere.

He is going to City and everyone knows it.

Just a rumour, but if he really is just looking for the biggest payday possible, I've lost an incredible amount of respect for him. I wish players that want money will just come out and say it.

maybe SAF is trying to rob Arsenal and City from the inside with that feint bid. So United come into the frame for Van Persie and City will splash their cash to sign him, and he won't stay in his peak for long and drop down in form, and Arsenal would've lost their star and United wouldn't be moved a bit.

I just can't see him in a United shirt. Sir Alex is a master.

that article stats "according to the sun"

i stopped reading there. "according to the graffiti on a toilet wall i saw" would have as much credibility with me

Ah yes, The Sun, that fountain of wisdom and accurate stories. :lol RvP stating that he'd rather play for Utd than City holds much more water for me - The Times and The Sun are worlds apart.

That's what she said last year.

Sorry, Na$ri.

Selling him now when the team's already short in central midfield wouldn't be the brightest idea.

I don't think he'll ever be more than a squad player, not until he sorts out his fitness issues, most of which are probably caused by his own lax attitude to keeping himself trim.

He came in at a wrong time. That's what has happened. And I'm glad United kept him, look at guys who made it big in U-21 before making a move to a giant club. Roystone Drenthe was almost a similar talent at the wings, went to Madrid and never hit his peak albeit some giving some good shows.

Anderson is a little different, we saw what he could do when he's in form, but he's to come out Being the shadow of being a worthy backup and a make a threatening player in his place and that's one point. He was played out of position to either suffice United's formation most of the time or generally someone else was playing up before him.

In contrast to it 2007-2009's squad was obviously one of the greats in United's recent history. So although he showed last season how he can still fit in to United's plans with trademark one touch passing before the injury layoff would Cut out him off. Otherwise he could've set off really well last season.

Hope he'll do well this time around, he has what united needs and this might be the opening in squad congestion and now there's some offload of the squad going on his might be the time to prove and rescript his jagged reputation.
