Barcelona close in on Arsenal midfielder Alex Song - ESPNFC

Smh ha, starting to feel a bit sorry for Wenger. Losing both RVP and Song will be killer. Everytime he tries to build now he is losing a top player.

This one is his call, and so was RVP to an extent. Song's attitude has been terrible of late.

Anyway, he is no RVP and is certainly no Fabregas. Very replaceable. He was underrated for a large part of last season, and so was Arteta. After that, both of them started getting quite overrated, especially Song. He isn't a god like is being made out.

Tad bit late, but holy kerplucking ----, RVP to United? Good for him I guess, he'll have a very good chance of actually getting some play time, can't say the same had he done the deal with us.

True - I mean I don't think you guys need any more strikers. Tevez/Aguero is your starting two without a doubt, with Balotelli and Dzeko, unless the latter goes of course. Your midfield is great and the defence is pretty damn solid as well! Perhaps you could do with some cover in defence, but other than that, I don't think you need much.

What do you think of the Rodwell signing?

In any case, it's game on for this season, my Light Blue friend. ;)

Exactly, plus bringing in RVP would've certainly sent Dzeko away and he's a young player, don't want sending many of those away.

Rodwell, tbh, I really don't know anything about him and I'm a tad bit irritated that I haven't done anything to find out, going to blame the Football rut I just went through on this one. Anywho, I'm going to pitch this back at you my rather Red friend, what can or can't he do?

Ha ha, same as you really - I don't know a great deal about him, other than that he's young and can play several positions mainly in midfield I think.

He's got a good long shot on him, can pass sideways really well and has all the attributes required to be a strong physical presence/driving force in midfield, although he hasn't really used them for any sort of sustained time.

He can play CB too, so I guess City might be making a change with him like they did with Kompany.

Oooh, that could be interesting, especially with us deploying this new 3 at the back formation.

I remember that too. Can't see for the life of me how an Arsenal fan could prefer Man Utd over City or Juventus. Money talks though. Getting paid more than Rooney is huge.

Anyway RVP, break a leg!

Yeah. My god, surely that makes him the best payed player ever in the PL at 235 K a week? Even Man City couldn't have offered that.

Enjoy wearing your tablecloth son.

How much??

Suppose SAF was right in defending the Glazer's. Interesting you bring that up:p.

OK, let me put this to you: would we have been able to attract RvP and pay his (extortionate) wage demands before the Glazers? Of course we would - the only difference is it wouldn't be dragging us further into debt! Every big signing, complete with huge wage bill cannot be doing the club's finances any good! Granted, chances are RvP will be worth it, but let's get one thing clear once again: Utd have been winning despite the Glazers, not because of them! Even with this 10% floating on the Stock Exchange, they've leeched another ?80m or so out of the club. The way some people are going on, it's like Utd only started being successful with the advent of the Glazers! We were doing quite well thank you very much - we didn't want the Glazers; no one did. That's the problem with PLCs in football. What I don't understand is we blocked the proposed Rupert Murdoch takeover back in the early nineties :facepalm why couldn't we have done the same with the Glazers?

As for the sarcasm from ste_mc_efc, what do you propose that Utd do? Sit back while City ride off into the sunset with the title once again? No - we had to act - we had to land a very big signing. It's an irrefutable fact that these rich owners, not just City, but Chelsea, PSG and anyone else who crops up are hurting the game - everyone knows that! :rolleyes Utd fans want rid of the Glazers because long term, I don't see us being able to compete with City otherwise.
