Football Transfers Thread

Early days for Fletcher yet, he still looks a long way from being anywhere close to match-fit although obviously his recovery is looking promising at the moment.

Didn't watch him play, so can't comment on how he's looking. His recovery though is the only logical reason I can think of that would be stopping SAF from going out and purchasing a good ball winner.

Heard that Everton are going for Mirallas, would be a good back-up if he is signed, and also he's good enough to challenge Jelavic. Can also play on the wings, and is fast too. All this for 5m, the same fee which could be spent on Niang (possibly more, considering the competition for him).

Exactly the kind of player who should be targeted. Can also compete with Jelavic. Competition is required in every position for a successful team, complacency in a position so important would be terrible.

Surely cheaper than Niang as well, though probably higher wages.

Fast, tricky winger with a good finish. His goal record for Olympiakos is insane. Played against us in the CL, and although he didn't score, he was pretty impressive from what I remember.

Typical questionable Moyes signing like Jelavic was that can turn out to be a true star.

AS (pretty much the paper of Real Madrid) saying Sahin to Arsenal and Modric to Real will be completed by the end of the week.

Sorry Liverpool fans. Would still be a bigger signing for you than us though, as he is really just cover.

In terms of pure cover coming in if Jelavic gets injured, and also maybe for the last ten minutes if needed, he still isn't that great.

What makes you think he is any better than Vellios and Anichebe? He is highly rated because he has pace, strength, and an eye for goal. He's also performed well at youth level and bagged a couple of goals in France. What I think is he is not the sort of signing you should be too excited about in the short term, especially as he will need to settle. Certainly, once he's older he'll surely give you a nice profit, and will improve. Shouldn't be fitting him into your XIs just yet I reckon. Plus his fee will be huge, I believe Arsenal already made an offer of 5 m, and City and Milan are interested. He'll cost a lot and will not give you enough in the short term.

Reckon a winger should be first priority, and a better back-up strike option on the cheap would be better than Niang. Then maybe Niang at the end of the window if needed

Nothing at all makes me thing he'd be better now than vellios/anichebe. I didn't say he would, but he's a different type of player to them and has the one attribute we lack most (pace). The point was more anyone who could get some game time there would be a positive addition due to how light we are there behind jelavic. And with his potential he could be a great long term signing, for relatively little risk.

Mirallas would be a much better signing for sure, he'd make the first XI pretty much straight away aswell as cover jelavic better than anyone else we have atm,

Fair enough, but for adding an extra element to the team, he costs a tonne. You could as well get a guy from the Championship for under a million with pace. Same effect.

Btw, what the hell did I just say:p. AS is reporting Liverpool are the ones about to sign Sahin. Cracking signing if it goes through. Mourinho supposedly prefers Liverpool due to Wenger, and Sahin prefers Arsenal.

Bloody pissed though. Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud were good pieces of business, and left us on a high. In the last few days though, we've just learnt that RVP is almost definitely going to United, Sahin is going to Liverpool, M'Vila is possibly going to Spurs and Mirallas is possibly going to Everton. Typical Arsenal, doing the scouting for other teams, and failing to sign a player due to trying to haggle on a million here or there.

Add Song to your list of possible departures.

Walcott is likely to go if RVP does. Song, no.

All the signs suggest Song will only leave if Wenger wants to take the money Barca are offering. The Barca story is mainly just Song trying to get a better contract. Other than the tabloids and Barca players, no-one says anything is happening.

Oh, I really hope we get RvP! If we do, I might put a few quid on us winning the league back - Rooney and RvP; what a partnership! Good news about Fletcher getting on the comeback trail.

Ha well its true now. Still think its weird choice by RVP, since i reckon the gunners have done the best they can to bring in players to back him up.

Big boost for United, since it may sort of show they still can pull players while Arsenal seem to be viewed as feeder club now for good.

Absolutely delighted by this news - but looking at it from an objective point of view, why has he signed? Have we offered him much more money than Arsenal, or does he see winning the title back from City as a challenge he'd like to be part of?

Either way, I hope the Arsenal fans don't give him too much crap. He's been a great player for them; he's spent around eight years with the club and without his goals, they would've been absolutely nowhere.

Great addition to our squad though and the last Dutch striker we signed did OK, as far as I remember. :D

Mancini, are you listening?
You better keep our trophy glistening!
Cos we're coming in May to take it away,
Walking in a Fergie wonderland!

Yeah the horse faced one was rather good, loved him at utd, just guaranteed goals simple as that

It's a marquet signing to please the fans definitely

However I honestly think he is slightly over rated and really only had one good season, he is quality no doubt, just don't think it's as good a deal as it looks on paper,

To me Arsenal have done the better out the deal.

Just a bit. ;) According to what I read, they signed him in 2004 for ?2.4m - surely that can't be right? It's not just RvP though, it's the prospect of RvP + Rooney that's got me excited. :)

Edit: Checked it and he signed in 2004 for ?2.75m, so Arsenal have made a massive ?20m profit! Not sure where that leaves them now - they've only got one really decent striker now, haven't they?
