Football Transfers Thread

if there is an agreement in place that 17m will release a player from his contract why on earth would anyone pay more than this? I might be wrong but, but I don't think it makes sense otherwise.

If barca off to pay malaga 17m then they have no choice but to let them offer isco a contract which he can accept or reject as he sees fit. any bidding war would take place over personal terms.

Exactly. Thought the recent Demba Ba transfer was example enough. Never saw Chelsea or Arsenal or Liverpool linked with a bid more than his 7.5M release clause value. Think if a bidding war comes to the equation, it concerns only the player - his weekly wages + bonuses

No I've heard several times before that there's more to it than just the release clause.

Ba again isn't as hot a property as Isco due to his knees.

Anyway, wait and see with Isco, he'll go for more.

Don't think Isco's done anything really out of the ordinary yet. About the same as Thiago and Muniain last season.

He's become a class player but a level below the Gotze's, IMO.

He has for more potential than Gotze for me, I rate him higher than Gotze.

Isco is one of the main reasons why Spain's dominance will continue once the stars retire.

I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about the Fryers transfer to Tottenham - can anyone clear it up?

I'm pretty sure that the gist of it is that Fergie didn't want to give Fryers to Tottenham. So he sold him to Standard Liege. Now that Fryers is close to a Tottenham move, Fergie wants it examined for obvious reasons. He thinks it was a planned set-up.

Tottenham offered Man Utd 5 m I think. Though instead of that, Standard Liege gave Man Utd 2 m and Spurs are giving Standard Liege 3 m. Better for all parties except Man Utd.

Not quite, Liege not being an english side don't have to pay the same level of compensation as spurs did (they may not have to pay any, actually, but i'm not sure on the exact rulings)

The compensation was set at 6million by a tribunal (depending on future potential but with a lot up front). Lots of mumbles from spurs that the people who set the fee at the tribunal had links to united, and the fee was unfair and they certainly didn't think he was worth the fee, so didn't sign him. Liege signed him (possibly for free) and SAF is saying spurs have worked with liege to work around the unfair, in spurs eyes, fee.

Ah yup that was where I got the 5 m from, the 5 m was compensation, the 2 m Liege payed was just a transfer fee I think, no compensation needed.

Fair play to Spurs IMO.

Yeah, sure, but there's more chance of anyone landing Isco than Gotze(why the hell would he leave one of the best Dortmund sides assembled?), especially now with Malaga being banned from the CL.

Looks like this Llorente to Juve' deal is done, just which window it happens seems to be the question...

Juventus don't even need him now, Matri and Quagliarella have been doing a fine job and they are well in the lead in Serie A, plus there's the world class Bendtner waiting as well.

For him, perhaps it makes more sense to move now though what with him being frozen out of the Athletic team.

As good as Matri and Quagliarella are, I just can't see them taking Juve' to CL glory...

:eek::eek:

No dude. Just no! Matri (cocks up quite a number of chances), Vucinic (ditto), Giovinco (ditto), Nicky Bendtner (well you know him...) and Quags (unbelievably selfish, doesn't at all link up well upfront) are all pretty average imho. Llorente is a must for them to become genuine CL contenders.

Yeah they will need him for the CL for sure, but not the league.

Fine job is overstating it, but they have been doing some sort of job and it has been getting goals. When I have watched Juventus this season they haven't stood out as absolutely dire either. They aren't good but with the service they get it shouldn't be a problem.

Vucinic is good though, and while Giovinco is incredibly wasteful he is still a very good player.

Plus I think you are taking it for granted that Llorente will hit the ground running.

Malaga have been banned from the CL? Does that include this season? Shame cause they played some of the best football in the group stages.
