Football Transfers Thread

That, and the fact that Manchester isn't one of the favourites of a player.

Again, it's an industrial northern city, not Venice. If a player wants a decent location he'll go to a London club. Or a club with reasonable travel times to London.

Having grown up in Manchester i can see why its not the most exciting city for much foreigners. I've always said if Manchester was more like London, Ronaldo may have not wanted to go to Madrid in the first place.

Can't really coincide with that, he wanted Real Madrid the club, not Madrid the city.

He wanted the city with the club.

Ye of course the club itself was the first pull. However lets not forget that outside of football big Chris is very much a playboy. Son been with celebrity chicks like Paris Hilton & some super sexy models n stuff.

Manchester Night life & culture is very traditional English, although it got some decent modern spots. So that side of it with Madrid being one of the most exciting cities in europe, i reckon would have had an influence on his decision to move ever so slightly.

So if Newcastle United weren't a "wee club in the north-east" he'd be there? ;)

I think tonight's CL game might have given Ronaldo the taste for Old Trafford again - he certainly didn't look like a victorious player tonight that's for sure.

I don't like where this Rooney saga is going. So if its that he does sadly leave United, i'd say Juventus is a very good shout for him over the initial talk of PSG.

The old lady is a club with great tradition. They need a world class striker up front to complete their powerful defensive acumen. I reckon rooney's game would work perfectly as the second "1" in their 3-5-1-1 formation.

I'm sure Juventus could have him if they wanted to, but it's just highly unlikely that they splash ?35m+ on a Rooney...

Rooney isn't world class. He's just a very good player, and that's coming from a United fan. Van Persie is what you call world class.
But he's certainly better than what Juve have up front right now.

Erm, Rooney is world-class. He's quite good at what he does (very few do that so effectively). And this is coming from a Liverpool fan.

Juventus seems like a good option for him, but Juve won't spend that much considering the Serie A's financial condition.

It's a silly semantic argument whether he is world class or not. There isn't a set number of players who are world class so generally people end up working from different definitions.

Is it not just simpler to say he's excellent and leave it at that?

Yea basically. Not taking any jabs at the poster, but obviously a lot a people have their biases against Rooney. They either dislike him personally or feel for some reasons he didn't live up to the hype that some "expected" him become after that famous goal when he was 16 & EURO 2004.
