Are we really believing Mourinho is not a Juan Mata fan? He is Chelsea's best player. I'd have him over Rooney every time.

Moyes was daft to say Rooney would be an important part of his side only if RVP was injured though. It sounds like something from a parody Twitter account.

It's probably been misconstrued - what he most likely meant was that Rooney will be even more important if RvP was to be injured, but his wording was awful and it's clearly got Rooney into the mindset of being a squad player, which he isn't. Moyes needs to get Rooney in for talks to clear this up, unless he meant exactly what everyone thinks he did.

As for Mourinho not being a Mata fan? I'm amazed and yeah, with our other striking options, I would swap Rooney for Mata.

We'll give you 20 million just to keep the over rated fat scouser at utd

And please Jose don't even think about off loading Mata

I don't get why Jose says he's not a fan of Mata...

And he's clearly desperate to land Rooney - now he's trying to sew World Cup doubts in Rooney's mind by saying that to be picked for your country, you've usually got to be first choice for your club. Not always true as it happens, but still - we can see the game he's playing. ;)

Who exactly do Manchester United plan on replacing him with (if they do sell him)? Falcao's gone, Cavani's gone, Ibrahimovic is well out of their reach, Lewandowski only wants Bayern, Liverpool wouldn't sell them Suarez, the best of the rest is on his way to the other side with Jovetic to follow, Higuain? Nah, more playing time for Welbeck it is! :p
This isn't FM, one in one out logic doesn't work in the real world. Up front is the least of United's worries, Rooney or no Rooney.

It's still a worry, it more just says something about the status of Man Utd when it is the least of your worries.

You're falling...

Not really, it's clear that central midfield is the priority. Fergie's man management skills might have somewhat papered over that failing over the past few seasons but Moyes doesn't enjoy the same luxury.

The signings of Kagawa and RvP were a sign that Fergie was already planning for life after Rooney. I don't think Rooney ever fully recovered the full trust after his contract wrangling in 2010 and being left out of some of the bigger games last season was just the icing on the cake.

People said the same when van Nistelrooy wasn't "replaced" but United are definitely in a better position to cover for Rooney's departure than they were for when Ruud left. Having said that, Mata would do pretty nicely. :D

Man Utd is dying!?

Moyes confirms that he has bid for Fabregas.

Nothing more than a token bid, Man Utd have no hope of getting Fabregas.

Football is crazy, Don. Never write anything off. IIRC, you were pretty confident RvP would say NO to United and sign with City instead, last year...

RVP in, Berba out? Different realm maybe? :rolleyes

Barca: Fabregas is non-transferable - ESPN FC

I'm sure he was of the notion that Arsenal wouldn't sell to United... I for one thought he was a sure shot to Turin, playing with Pirlo, more of a chance at winning the CL, not pissing off the Arsenal fans, it all just made too much to happen I guess. :p
