Football Transfers Thread

Wenger confirmed we have a clause in there, so basically if anyone is interested and Cesc wants to leave, we get first refusal.

Regarding the "right of first refusal", this's what I read in another forum:

Arsenal would have to atleast match our offer to use the ROFR and yes of course, Fabregas would have to accept as well.

From a United fan.

The thing is, why would Cesc want to return to Arsenal? What could he possibly hope to gain?

Either way, we've pretty much matched Barca's asking price of ?30m, so we'll see what happens next. I'd be much happier if we were going after a defensive midfielder as well though.

We've made, what, a ?35 m bid for Suarez? The club won't have any problem bidding up to ?45 m when it's Fabregas. Considering the money Barca owe us for him, we would pay at least ?5 m less then any other suitors, not to forget that there could be another clause in there somewhere such as a sell-on fee which was what was rumoured in the past. Man Utd definitely aren't paying that much regardless.

Fabregas isn't going to Man Utd to play for David Moyes over his father anyway. It could be different if Ferguson was there, but now every lure they have is gone. Anyone with eyes can see the loss of Ferguson alone will cause them to fade.

What does he gain from United by going to play with David Moyes?

Barca's asking price isn't ?30 m:rolleyes. They'll demand ?35-40 m minimum that's how much they paid for him.

Man Utd is about a bit more than David Moyes y'know...

His squad rotation was also quite horrible, if he ever did rotate his players.

Seems like Martino (he's the former Newell's manager, and was also quite good with Paraguay) is the favourite to take over, his record so far has been quite good, although I don't have a clue as to how his teams play.:p

I'm hearing Luis Enrique, the former Barca B coach, ticks all the Barca boxes really.

Martino is a Bielsa disciple.

Enrique didn't really convince at Roma but he should have been kept on if the Americans wanted to complete this Barca-lite transformation they were after.

They should tempt Fergie or Heynckes out of retirement. :D

One of the lures of going to Man Utd in the past was playing for perhaps the greatest football manager of all time. Now it's David Moyes who is less than half the manager Wenger is and certainly below a lot of other PL managers. Man Utd have a weaker squad than Chelsea and Man City by far, both quality wise and obviously quantity wise IMO and this'll be made obvious this season without Ferguson to get them the results. Reports of Rooney wanting out aren't helping either.

If we pick up a striker and Cesc we will be stronger than Man Utd easy.

Apparently Cesc has unfollowed RVP after his comments about wanting him at United:lol.

I really hope Man Utd keep going for him as it'll mean there's a good chance he will come to us. I heard reports that Man Utd put in another bid for ?30 m plus add-ons. Mertesacker has even been training in the number 2 shirt, leaving number 4 open...

It's silly really, Wenger has mentioned the clause publicly and Moyes still wants us to have him.

Don't be silly Man Utd is about glory hunting.

I've been supporting them since 1986 - yep, they were really glorious days...

A bunch of traitors if I'm not wrong.

What's that got to do with anything?

In your dreams...

And as I said before, why would he want to return to Arsenal? You're not exactly going through a good period right now, are you? ;)

I ain't referring to you when I mention glory hunting:lol.

Do you want to say in your dreams or actually say why your team with the old and tired defence and pitiful midfield would still be any good.

On your last point, the same could be said about you and Ronaldo;).

Ask yourself why'd he go to United first? Then think about the people he'll be playing with Pod,Caz,Wilshere & some good signing.

Please, no Podolski or some good signing over there. The rest are fine, but he wouldn't enjoy seeing Cazorla playing in his place obviously.

No chance of him moving to United, unless they make an extremely lucrative offer.

MB does have a point, why would he return to Arsenal?

After all his hard work to get there, he isn't going to throw it away just as some openings in the first XI begin to reveal themselves what with Xavi's form.

He won't go to Man Utd but he won't go to Arsenal either. That option is extremely unlikely until at the very least next summer. He won't be going to Man Utd at any point though.

Fabregas is better than Cazorla and Cazorla would be shafted out wide if Fabregas came. Not that Cazorla plays badly there by any means.

No chance of him moving anywhere really.

What does this even mean?

As for Fabregas, unless there is a serious Barca decline over the next few seasons (which isn't very unlikely given their current President) he'll most likely end his career at Barca.

But who knows, money talks at the end of the day.
