nah, there is definitely better value in the market than Matri for 12m. and it's that a forward wasn't really needed. when your back-pairing Zapata and Mexes with some colombian bloke as back up and kevin constant, who is a midfielder, on the left, then I would have welcomed an over-rated Sakho.

Ljajic was practically a milan player, how is that "never going to milan"? they messed up the approach but he was basically refusing to sign a contract so he could force a move to milan. He was easily, easily gettable if they'd just used a bit of sense, hell, even after that if they'd really wanted him they could have got him. took about a day to get matri, the Ljajic thing bumbled on for 2 weeks.

Eriksen too was heavily linked for years with milan, he may have stagnated or whatever, still a more useful player and basically the same price as matri.

you seem awful harsh on everyone don, man u have a terrible squad? what that's why they walked the league at a canter last year with the same players? they looked better than chelsea in the draw and gubbed the fancied swansea. I agree, they need a little sorting out but "awful"?

disagree on both points, matri was was unnecessary, milan don't have a single good defender, De Sciglio is promising but still raw, and they lack creativitity in midfield, montolivo the only outlet and he has defensive duties as well.

for a centre forward though they can play balotelli, pazzini, El Shaarawy, Niang and had the young relatively decent looking Petagna (Pizzaro doesn't play for milan), why they needed to spend 12m on a back up in Matri when Eriksen (creative midfielder), Sakho (solid CB) and Ljajic (a nailed on RW or AMC instead of experimenting with robinho and niang) have just completed moves or are available for roughly the same value I have no idea. Also milan have struggled with a bloated squad for a few years and bringing in a 3rd choice striker makes no sense.

Boateng was the root of a lot of problems too, he wants to play AMC but he's a battling warrior type that didn't have the creative ability, he looks bored and unmotivated at MC where he is actually useful. his highlight reel is good but his overall contribution is usually pretty poor. He was motivated last night against PSV but that was the first time in ages, plus the two goals masked a relatively ineffectual display. he's never been prolific so keeping him for goals would be silly, his wages were also ludicrous and milan are cash-strapped these days.

well I meant Pazzini. They kept Robinho because he couldn't be sold at a decent price, and he's way past getting a return off him.

From Yahoo:

Manchester United have been knocked back with their latest bids for three players: Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini of Everton and Ander Herrera of Athletic Bilbao.

But will the moves happen before Monday night? It seems so, according to the bookies as we take our final look at the transfer probabilities based on players' shortest-priced moves.

Baines is over 90 per cent certain to move to United while Fellaini is over 80 per cent certain to end up at Old Trafford. As for Herrera? The bookies aren't even taking bets on him any more, meaning they're as near as dammit 100 per cent sure that a move is going through.

United are also almost certain to conclude a deal for Ezequiel Garay, according to the odds, suggesting that David Moyes is in for a very busy 72 hours or so.

Thoughts? And what's Herrera like?

Never going to Milan since Fiorentina were getting really annoyed by their approaches and weren't going to sell him to them, so they pretty much offered him to Roma and got it done.

Sakho is probably going to Liverpool for ?15 m, poor value. Matri is just pointless overall though, so unnecessary and that price is insane.

It's clear they won the title due to RVP, they would've been trounced by Man City had he went to City or Juve. That's exactly the problem, they rely too much on RVP, and it covers the other cracks in their squad. The whole defence, the midfield and the wings aren't up to scratch. de Gea and Lindegaard are good, RVP is good, Chicharito is good off the bench. You then look at guys like Valencia, Young, Cleverley and Evra, plus more who all start and you see the lack of quality as all of them are poor or overrated, like in Cleverley's case.

You can say what you like, IMO they won the title due to RVP and Ferguson's brilliance, Moyes is hardly even comparable to Ferguson and there's no guarantee RVP will continue to score so much and continue to stay away from injury. Rooney will create disharmony in the squad too.

bookies odds on transfers mean very little.

it's like when they suspend betting on about 4 different favourites at various points for next manager at a club

You only have to read this thread to see what the obvious problem is.

the daily mail/mirror/star/rag can publish whatever it wants and use cop-out words like "reportedly" and "allegedly" and be entirely free from repercussions, yet countless people from around the world will comment and discuss them and share the links.

Even if people say it's dross from a dross paper that paper still gets hits which helps with ad revenue.

the "fans" crave drama and transfer sagas, so the papers, websites and SSN all play up to it

And there lies the collective problem. There used to be a time when good journalist would hunt a story due his links, break a story and those big clubs would eventually admit that is the truth. But we have long gone past that.

BBC, guardian and espnsoccernet.uk (the tv show, their websites reports a lot falsehood these days too) are probably the only reliable uk football news sites left.

Can't see Rooney causing too much 'disharmony' so far, and RvP appears to have picked up from where he left off. It's wishful thinking on your part if you reckon we won't be there or thereabouts, which is more than can be said for your lot. How long is it since the last trophy now? :D :p

oh no doubt we'll try and swap balotelli for him in the next 2 days.

lol.

Eriksen and Sakho have slipped out to the PL. Wonder if Milan could've spent a bit more than they did on matri (he IS decent) and signed up Gomez. Maybe it's the wages Fiorentina beat everyone else at, They sold Jovetic; also there are not too many players troubling their wage bills.

Napoli are the winners in the summer window for me. Raided off Madrid and brought in a good spanish contingent; leveled out the loss of Cavani.

Yep, I'm certain Man Utd need some good new additions to get a very high quality side. Baines is a big improvement on Evra, and with his creativity from the left I think it means a player like Kagawa or Welbeck can be used on the left wing as the genuine width from the wingers won't be needed. Not sure Fellaini will be able to do much as a holding midfielder or B2B midfielder. As for Herrera, I wasn't too thrilled when we were linked with him to give you an idea. He's way overpriced too.

I want to pose you a question, do you feel this current title-winning Man Utd team is even remotely close in greatness to previous ones, like say the 07/08 and 08/09 teams.

Mate, don't even get me started on Arsenal. Joke of a club.

Fiorentina got in quick for Gomez, there would've been a bunch of other clubs in for him if he was still available now.

?10m bid for De Rossi rejected apparently. Not surprising - ?10m is just as insulting and derisory as the old Felliani/Baines bid! Make some sensible bids if you want to sign someone, Moyes. Time's running out.

From what I'm reading,we could make a bid for Julian Draxler, who has rejected City & United.

Forget about it, we will never bid more than ?15 m on a player unless we know we can't get them like in the Suarez case.

And he'll reject Arsenal obviously. Schalke wouldn't let him go easily too.
