Football Transfers Thread

After initially thinking that these signings could really take them forward, I've come to the conclusion that they'll have serious trouble against teams that park the bus. There are no creative players there. Eriksen, yes, but he isn't going to work out IMO, he has stagnated in the past couple of seasons and I doubt he can become an elite player.

Spurs will still struggle to get into the CL this season. They need to gel, and let's not forget they would've barely finished in the top half without Bale last season.

Roberto Martinez - Leighton Baines hasn't asked for Manchester United move - ESPN FC

quote said:
Asked where he thought the stories regarding Baines and Fellaini were coming from, Martinez said: ?I don?t know. You need to try to find out. It is getting a little bit too much at the moment. It isn?t just here. It?s up and down the league, in every dressing room.

?You get these sorts of stories and we need to do something. We need to protect the league. We need to protect the players. It?s very unfair for the players.

?We need to be respectful to the fans. We need to try to stop all this transfer window business while games are going on.

Martinez is 1000% on point. I hate what the media has become. The so called main stream outlets that we expect to get the facts from are operating these days just like the tabloids, reporting rumors and lies.

maybe compared to barcelona, but bringing in Paulinho, Lamela and Eriksen along with a smart goal scorer in soldado you can hardly say they've not tried to bring in a lot of creativity.

however, yeah, the geling and the fact that some of those players may not turn out to be real elites could trip them up. the money made from bale makes them a real outlier, players have gone for huge amounts before, though not this huge and never from a club that's outside the elite clubs like tottenham are. they've spent like man city, PSG, chelsea did when they first came into mega-bucks and in all those cases those teams bought a ton of players in their first season and it's only been later through constant spending they found the right balance.

So, Chelsea have signed Eto'o - thoughts, Chelsea fans? As a Utd fan, I'm just glad they're going to stop going after Rooney now. In the meantime, the silence on the Utd front this transfer window is getting increasingly deafening.

You only have to read this thread to see what the obvious problem is.

the daily mail/mirror/star/rag can publish whatever it wants and use cop-out words like "reportedly" and "allegedly" and be entirely free from repercussions, yet countless people from around the world will comment and discuss them and share the links.

Even if people say it's dross from a dross paper that paper still gets hits which helps with ad revenue.

the "fans" crave drama and transfer sagas, so the papers, websites and SSN all play up to it

Happy with the Eto signing, think he could do pretty well for us, really glad we didn't get Rooney, I'm not his biggest fan you may have guessed..

I don't want a striker who gets praised for tracking back to help out or he "ran himself into the ground" speeches, a striker is there to score goals simple

That is what is wrong with our national game, we love players who "try hard" "gave everything", That's why we have players like Parker, Milner in our team. :facepalm

Lamela isn't a creative player, he is better at scoring them himself rather than setting them up. While he could be considered a really good signing who will be great in the future, he will need time to adapt to English football and definitely wasn't a ?30 m player and won't play like one this season or next season IMO.

Paulinho is a B2B midfielder and even less creative than Lamela. Again, not a top signing IMO as other than in some internationals recently he is unproven outside of Brazil.

Eriksen is good but I very much doubt he'll make it big, he's stagnated too much in the last couple of seasons.

Also I think you may be forgetting just how heavily they relied on Bale last season.

Sigh... Don't think it's official yet though, would be a complete PR disaster to announce two free signings when players better than Rooney were promised...

I agree. I think Eto'o can really tear up the league, Chelsea definitely stronger than Man Utd now I think and about equal with Man City.

Putting us third again, are we? You seem to have forgotten that we destroyed Swansea on the opening day and were a match for Chelsea in our second match; besides which, Chelsea would also be behind us were it not for a useless referee in the Aston Villa game. As for the other team you're putting ahead of us, they've already lost their first game against.... Cardiff. :lol:lol:lol

And I very much doubt that Utd won't bring in at least one decent player by Monday, if not two.

Prince (boateng) has joined Schalke.

What?!

Matri to AC Milan is official as well. Great deal. Milan have bagged a pretty good cover for Pizzaro. He always played in Giovinco's shadow at Juve tbh.

Only sense I could make of Prince's exit is to give El Sharaawy a better free role in the attack, or Milan have fallen prey to weak racist b&%^&tards.

disagree on both points, matri was was unnecessary, milan don't have a single good defender, De Sciglio is promising but still raw, and they lack creativitity in midfield, montolivo the only outlet and he has defensive duties as well.

for a centre forward though they can play balotelli, pazzini, El Shaarawy, Niang and had the young relatively decent looking Petagna (Pizzaro doesn't play for milan), why they needed to spend 12m on a back up in Matri when Eriksen (creative midfielder), Sakho (solid CB) and Ljajic (a nailed on RW or AMC instead of experimenting with robinho and niang) have just completed moves or are available for roughly the same value I have no idea. Also milan have struggled with a bloated squad for a few years and bringing in a 3rd choice striker makes no sense.

Boateng was the root of a lot of problems too, he wants to play AMC but he's a battling warrior type that didn't have the creative ability, he looks bored and unmotivated at MC where he is actually useful. his highlight reel is good but his overall contribution is usually pretty poor. He was motivated last night against PSV but that was the first time in ages, plus the two goals masked a relatively ineffectual display. he's never been prolific so keeping him for goals would be silly, his wages were also ludicrous and milan are cash-strapped these days.

Ljajic was never going to Milan, purely because Fiorentina were just too annoyed by them and were willing to sell to anyone else.

Sakho isn't a big miss, he is waay overrated because of his performances a few years ago. He has regressed if anything, he is very error-prone and wouldn't be the one to shore up Milan's defence.

Matri is quite a pointless move.

But with the cash they have available, or lack of it rather, Matri is the best they can really do.

You better be right. Awful squad really for a title-winning team that shows the lack of quality in the league now. The squad needs improvement, there are problems all over the pitch and only a few positions seem to be in really good shape.
