Football Transfers Thread

Signing foreign players may now sound good but what happens if you go on a slump and drop down the league a bit or the money dries up and no one wants to come to you from abroad. Then your stuck with a youth system that people dont reconise have given a chance and who have all gone to clubs who give a chance.

Its like it at all clubs, look at leeds they were in the champions league and cruising along and decided they could throw money to get players, next thing they were in debt struggling at the bottom of the league and having to sell their raw talent to pay for these overpriced 'stars'. The youth system works and given a chance it will show. Arsenal are always a club that say 'in 5 years we're gonna be amazing', but one bad season, the foreigners leaving and the youth being sold/leaving will leave you as a club that never was and they could easily slump like leeds.

So, it's easy to buy International players than make them. I know you have made a lot but most of the player you mentioned already played for England.

@ Duded64, we won't become bankrupt since we don't sign anyone :)

Agreed duded, why would players want to join Arsenal's academy? They would just get released or sold.
That means that the real talent will go to Spurs or other nearby clubs while you rely on your foreigners.

Lol. Why do you hate Arsenal?

Our youth system is very good. That is why people would want to come. Pennant now plays for Liverpool. Aliadiere for Middlesborough. Cole for Chelsea. Bentley for Blackburn. Who wouldn't want to play in the premiership?

These examples show how good our system are

Thats not the point though, i was responding to madman about him saying we have foreigners when making fun of liverpool. We have more quality English players than anyone.

At least Man Utd sign English international players, which is good for the English game.

You only mention the few who have "succeeded", if others who wasted their career at the Arsenal academy had chosen Spurs or others then they could have become good players.

So, do you expect us bring up England's next 11?

We did but they weren't our best players and Cole was just a selfish, greedy [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word] [rude word]

I wouldn't want to buy any English players. At this current moment in time I think the standard of players in the English national side is pretty poor.
Beckham is doing okay, but he only has a year or two left in him. Rooney wouldn't sold. Hargreaves has had about 4 good games for England and he's our next midfield messiah all of a sudden. Lampard is a waste of space.
The only player I would want to buy for any team would be Steven Gerrard.

With the inflated prices of English players it's not worth buying them anymore because you wont get value for your money as a club back.
Seriously, Bent worth more than Henry.
Absolute joke. It's one of the reason why English players aren't being bought. You can buy much much better foreign players a lot cheaper.
Football clubs are business's and unless you have loads of money, like an Abramovich or a Glazer, then it's not worth the risk buying them. Arsenal are not an especially rich club. We cannot afford to take those types of risks and not have them pay off.

That's because they are one of two teams who can afford to buy quality England players, althought Liverpool look like we have a lot more funds now.

in the existence of the premiership we've spent roughly 20 million more than Liverpool, so i think you best make it 3 :p
