Lancashire travel up to the Brit Oval to face a very strong Surrey team, a tough test is ahead of Warren Heggs team even with the likes of James Anderson and heading the bowling attack and Freddie Flintoff frustrating the oppostiton with some high scores.

Surrey won the toss and decided to field, the right descision? We will find out soon enough.

The batsmen will be able to wrack up some high scores as the ball will come onto the bat nicely, once they get past the initial 10 overs the ball wont really do much and spinners will become a big factor, both teams look equally balanced with both batting and bowling attacks and it looks to be a very exciting match.

Division 1:
Surrey Vs Lancashire:
Brit Oval:
Day 1:
End Of Innings:
Lancashire:
230 All Out
J Anderson: 5*

Swann and Chilton begin to get into the swing of things and look comfortable at the crease as they bring up the 50 partnership after Chilton escaped with his wicket on 0, he edged under 4th slip and the ball ran away for 4 as Azhar Mahmood looked on in disbelief. Chilton is the one looking edgy and he is the first to go as he lofts a slower short pitched delivery straight to mid on where Hollioake takes a dolly to dismiss him for just 30, Ormond with the breakthrough after a 70 run 1st wicket stand.

Swann reaches 51 and his half century with 4 fours, a well batted 50, striking the ball out of the middle of the pat with precise timing, now he needs to get his head down and work hard. He didnt and went on a soft delivery a few overs later, Ormond gave him an off spinner that cut back and he tried to go against it and drive it through the covers but missed, he goes for 59.

Law is clean bowled by Hollioake for only 18, a poor innings and a bad shot selection proved him downfall but the dangerman is next in and Flintoff should be ready to work wonders.

He hits a few boundary and gets a few more singles but is caught by an ecstatic Azhar Mahmood after a miscued shot shot, the outswinger got him from Hollioake and he is forced to depart for only 37, he looks dissapointed.

Ormond strikes again, this time its Mal Loye on the recieving end, he is gone for 4 after just 4 balls, another clean bowled that cut back in and he carries on to get his 4th just after dismissing Chapple after he tries to pull a shot that was to short to be pulled and sent it up into the air, the an underneath it is Graham Thorpe, Chapple goes for 6.

Hooper has a good innings but is dismissed by Hollioake as many of his fellow batsmen were, just as he was looking to build on his start, gone for 34 after a fantastic catch by Bicknell at Gully, caught it diving low to his right, the ball looked as though it was crashed away to the boundary before he got behind it.

The Captain goes for a golden duck next ball, Hollioakes inswinger nipped back to uproot off stump as Hegg was left defending middle and leg, poor batting when the team needed more from him.

Cork faced the hatrick ball which surprisingly was a wide half volley which got the treatment it deserved, smashes away through the covers for a well struck four. Lancashire go 9 down soon after though as Ormond picks up an expensive five-for. Schofield is caught on 7 at mid on by Hollioake.

Dominic Cork had a decent innings, smashing 30 from just 12 balls including 4 fours and a six leaving Jimmy Anderson not out on 5 after Ormond gave him the slower ball and he edged to Graham Thorpe at 5th Slip.

Lancashire needed to bat more carefully, too many clean bowled there and not from particualy good balls either, a bit of a middle order let down but the runs were boosted by Corky at the end.

Surrey Bowling Stats 1st Innings:

J Ormond: 10.5 overs, no maidens, 6/128
Azhar Mahmood: 4 overs, no maidens, 0/53
A Hollioake: 5 overs, no maidens, 4/47
Saqlain Mustaq: 1 over, no maidens, 0/4

not a great score there mate, then again not to bad considering u had to bat first! lets hope you are good at restricting them, butcher thorpe and alike.

They have a very stong batting lineup packed full of internationals but i think i should be able to restrict them to under 350

Day 2:
Lunch:
Surrey:
111/3

G Thorpe: 8*
A Brown: 13*

Rain delayed the start of play at the end of day 1 for half an hour and the players came back out at 4:50 to finish the day with Jimmy Anderson to bowl the first over in which Butcher edged one through the slips and one that didnt carry. A very lucky man in the end.

Hooper is brought into the attack in the place of Dominic Cork who hasnt really produced much with Butcher going well on 25 with a strike rate of 50. He is the only one scoring really though as Clarke has only scored 3.

Butcher flicks one past square leg off the bowling of Hooper and sets of on the run, Clarke is a little slow on the uptake allowing Schofield time to recover and make a good throw to Hegg behind the wickets, Clarke was just out but it wasnt close enough for a 3rd umpire as the finger was raised straight away. He departs on 3 after 67 balls.

Butcher makes a good 5 with a huge six back over Schofields head, the first real runs he has gone for. Butcher has contributed well with three 4's and a six with some good running in between wickets. He is currently partnered by Mark Ramprakash on 1 but soon follows Clarke back to the dressing rooms for 52. A good knock but Schofield got the better of him in the end, a lovely flighted delivery that dipped and he played a poke rather than a shot to Flintoff who took the catch easily.

Ramprakash has an early scare as Butcher did although this one should have been taken, Hooper bowled him the wrong-un and the ball looped up into thr air toward a close catcher who let the ball slip through his hands .

Flintoff is brought into the attack for James Anderson after a long spell and has an immeadiate impact taking a wicket with his first ball. It angled accross the right hander from around the wicket and nipped back in and thin edged through to Warren Hegg who hardly even had to move, the last over before lunch is a silly time to get out and Ramprakash goes for 6.

Surrey Vs Lancashire:

Day 2:
End Of Innings:
Surrey:
257 All Out

Saqlain Mustaq: 0*

A spinner is brought back into the attack to slow the run rate down and to get some wickets but in the end its Anderson who makes the breakthrough. After having two no balls smashes away for 4 in a row he comes back by sending the stumps in every direction. Bowling the same ball but faster with a lower bounce Thorpe plays the same cut shot but the ball goes below his bat and uproots off stump whilst dislodging middle and leg, a beautifull sight and a big wicket for Anderson. Thorpe goes for 22.

Alistair Brown took it upon himself to boots the run rate and go on an onslaught making 42 from 50 balls but it is Anderson who shines through once again, while Flintoff tries to subdue Brown, Anderson had Hollioake caught behind by Warren Hegg for just 11. The ball nipped the edge of the bat and flew at the keeper with some pace but the safe hands caught it comfortably.

Anderson strikes once again after a fantastic spell of bowling. This time its Batty who is on the recieving end, he only faced 9 balls before going for a duck after another fine take by Warren Hegg, a big defelction saw him flying to his right and catch the ball in his outstretched hands and Surrey find themsleves in need of a partnership as they slump to 181/6 after a great start.

Brown cuts Flintoff away to the boundary where he is unnaposed as there is no man there to bring up his 50 from 60 balls, it included seven 4's and some good running, he has held Surrey together allong with Butcher by posting a good score. He proceeds to hit the next two balls for a four and a very very low six to bring up the 200 mark and Surrey take the lead as Azhar Mahmood drives one past extra cover for a four.

The big wicket of Ali Brown is taken and by none other than Jimmy Anderson who deserves it. Brown has been really hammering the bowlers, smashing them here there and everywhere and it proved to be his downfall. He chipped one over extra cover for four one ball earlier and Anderson gave him the same ball but with a slower delivery, it worked a treat and he lobbed it straight to extra cover who took a dolly to send him away for 78 from 73 deliverys, a fantastic innings but a bad shot was his downfall allong with some good bowling.

Flintoff gets his second wicket as Lancashire look to mop up the tail and not conceed many more runs if any. He clean bowls Bicknell for 2. A good full ball that nipped back fiercely for such a non responsive pitch, it got between bat and pad and carried past the keeper taking middle stump with it, a fantastic ball.

Jimmy Anderson takes a double at the end and getting 5 wickets it the process. The 5th wicket was Azhar Mahmood for 24 with a yorker that went straight through and into off stump and the 6th was an inswinging yorker that hit leg stump to end Ormonds innings for a golden duck.

Good bowling all round for Lancashire and good batting, we set out to stop them reaching 300 and achieved that total with 43 runs to spare, a good performance by the Surrey lads, Bucther and Brown in particular. This match is shaping up well.

Lancashire Bowling Stats:

J Anderson: 23.3 Overs, 3 Maidens, 6/110
D Cork: 11 Overs, 2 Maidens, 0/34
C Hooper: 7 Overs, 4 Maidens, 0/3
A Flintoff: 16 Overs, 0 Maidens, 2/79
C Schofield: 7 Overs, 3 Maidens, 1/14
G Chapple: 1 Overs, 0 Maidens, 0/7
