General Cricket Discussion

Pretty happy with that decision, I think Taylor's the right man to lead us forward. I'm not sure if McCullum would have been able to get us out of where we are atm.

Not sure why it took so long. Pretty sure most of New Zealand knew it was going to be Taylor.

Yea, it'll be good to let the new blood through after the world cup.

Time for Todd Astle!

Vettori is the best ODI and T20 spinner so it's a shame that he's going to semi-retire from them but it'll be good to see what the next up and coming spinners can do. I guess McCullum and Woodcock will have first dibs.

New Zealand news: Daniel Vettori to play only Tests | New Zealand Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

I would like to see another spinner given a go in test cricket sometime soon, to see if they do have more success than he does, because over the last few years he has started to struggle. Possibly that means pushing Vettori up the order a bit, into more of a batting all-rounder role. I'd even be tempted to open the batting with him against Zimbabwe.

I'm pretty shocked that Vettori gave up the limited overs stuff to be honest, if anything I would've thought he would've given up tests. Hes nothing more than a stock bowler, than a wicket taking option these days. I agree about pushing him up the order I would definitely want to see him at number 6 because I really feel its about time we gave a new spinner a go.

He's always talked about wanting to reach the 400/4000 milestone so I was in no doubt he wouldn't give up tests myself

about 60 wickets away I think? Possibly less

ICC news: More Tests for major countries in FTP 2012-20 draft | Cricket News | Cricinfo ICC Site | ESPN Cricinfo

Glad to know that England will be playing a 5 match test series against India during 2014 & 2018. Test cricket ftw!

----------

There will also be two Ashes series in 2013 - one during the English summer and the other in Australia at the end of the year - in order to avoid a clash with the 2015 World Cup.

OMG! That certainly has got to be the greatest year for test cricket!

India have a comfortable window for the IPL in most years but in 2014 they are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs in May, and then start a five-Test series in England in the second week of June, leaving a three-week gap for the seven-week tournament.

England are the only country without a clear IPL window for most of the years, potentially continuing the trend of their players rarely featuring in the tournament. Australia have made space in their calendar to allow their players to take part, while New Zealand are a mixed bag, with tours scheduled in some years and a gap in others. West Indies have series that potentially clash with the IPL as May and June are part of their home season.
