For those who can listen, five live sports extra is providing live radio coverage of the practice session right now.

The qualifying session was interesting with the home hero, Massa flying like anything. Ferrari, Mclaren, Ferrari in starting grid.. This is going to be a amazing contest.

Alonso was less impressive though.

As unlikely as it is, wouldn't it be nice if Hamilton, Alonso and Raikonen were all somehow seperated by 3 points at the end of the race?

Anyway, good run by Massa on his home track again, he also looks good to take the win too.

I wonder if Massa will be allowed to win if Kimi is right behind him.

Of course he wont! Where's Ferrari's "fair treatment" observer? Why do Mclaren need one? All Alonso has done all season is moan that he hasn't had special treatment anyway. All the interference from the FIA is really turning me off formula one this season. They should just get on and let the teams decide how they run their business. They've managed to turn what should be the most exciting season in 20 odd years into a complete farce. Well done FIA, continuing your good tradition of sodding up race series.

I agree. Although if Mclaren are indeed fair to both drivers, then they shouldnt be bothered about the observer anyways.

The Massa-Kimi situation is interesting though. I'd expect Ferrari to have discussed this possibility while renewing Massa's contract. However they'll have to disguise the entire incident as a 'racing move' which I dont think is very hard to do. Sad thing is, there is a decent chance that Kimi might go past Massa on merit, but I am sure no one will believe that.

The thing is, even if they aren't fair to their drivers what has it got to do with the FIA? (For the record I believe McLaren always give both drivers a fair crack of the whip, this has been shown year after year, after year. Something Ferrari certainly cant demonstrate). This is something the FIA always get wrong. I remember in past years when the title has come down to the wire other drivers being warned to stay clear of the leading two. This is crazy. It doesn't matter a jot if a driver has scored no points all season, if he is fast enough he should be able to race for the win. This is clear double standards. The fact that they have this silly rule to forbid team orders and then let the farce of "oh dear, I seem to have run a bit deep and let my teammate through" continue shows how stupid it is.

First, it has nothing to do with the FIA. I dont support their move, but like I said, if Mclaren arent doing anything wrong, it shouldnt affect them.

As far as double standards are concerned, we know the rules have always been different for Ferrari and the remaining teams. Ecclestone himself said that Ferrari are the only "real team" in Formula 1. I wouldnt like to hear such a thing from the head(??) of a so called neutral governing body.

What a start. Well not for Hamilton. Overtaken by Raikkonnen and Alonso then tries a risky overtaking menouver on ALonso and goes off the track. Back in 8th, not done himself any favours at all...

Sorry for double post but...

... Hamilton is 18th! Engine cut out and was overtaken by a lot of people. Fixed now, good job there are a lot of laps. Alonso will win as it stands!

This is going to be interesting. Hamilton needs to make up a lot of places now or either Raikkonen or Alonso could win.

OMG Raikkonen has won the championship. How the hell did Hamilton manage to lose this.

Raikkonen has won it. Unfortunate for Hamilton, but Raikkonen has equally deserved the championship. Hamilton has still been a great revalation in British sport and i'm sure he'll be back stronger than ever next year. What a championship battle, just 1 point in it!

I'm happy that Alonso didn't win. Raikkonen did everything he needed to do to win the championship but Hamilton was unlucky.

Who is absolutely superb?

What a race, I had a small feeling that the immense pressure would get to Hamilton. It definitely showed when he tried to pass Alonso, he was still in a position to take the title, and it was unneccessary from his part. A rush of blood mixed with inexperience for sure.

Anyway! Forza Ferrari, Forza Kimi, World Champions 2007!

Great race and although Alonso's 2 year reign as World Champion has come to an end, I have to admit that Raikkonen deserved this. He has been unlucky in previous seasons and should be really pleased having got there in the end.

As far as Hamilton is concerned, well, we must not forget that this was after all his first season in the top flight. He has shown he has the skill and talent to compete with the best, and with the experience from this year he should come back an even better driver next year.

Overall, it was a great season. A bit sad about what happened with Mclaren, but no point thinking about it now. Looking forward to 2008 and personally I really hope Alonso does remain at Mclaren.
