World Cup Group B - Pool Matches Discussion Thread

and that, my friends, is why you can't play slowly in the first few overs in order to wait for the death overs

Well the concept of preserving wickets for the end is a great one, but it only works if you have players who can rotate the strike and pick the gaps. WIndies apparently have none

You have got to feel for these minnow teams - yesterday Zimbabwe and today Ireland. From a position of pure authority, to on the verge of getting batted out of the competition. Although this is not as bad as yesterday. Ireland should back themselves to chase a 285-290 total

the word minnow gets censored ? lol !

Since when is it against the rules ? anyways, "associates" it is then

that word filter must have been added in the last ten minutes

I'm guessing it was @MattW who gets my eternal thanks for doing that!

Why exactly though ? I am pretty sure it not an offensive slur by any means

Anyways no big deal

its incredibly disrespectful and patronising towards smaller cricketing nations and assumes that because they can't play test cricket they must be nations that don't care about cricket and can't beat the "proper" cricketing countries. Its a phenomonon unique to cricket it seems: you didn't see Costa Rica described as a minnow at all during their remarkable world cup run last year!

I disagree ! Maybe you guys should look up the meaning of minnow :)

It means an organization which is relatively smaller or not as strong. Which quite fits the teams like IRL, ZIM, etc. Be it based on their talent base or financial strength.

And if the word minnow is offensive for the reasons you mentioned, then the word upset should be censored too :)

PS: And fyi: I had totally not said it in an offensive manner

using that logic every post on this forum would be full of asterisks ;)

Players of all the associate/affiliate nations don't like that word: indeed Irish, Scots and other internationals seem to quite regularly moan about the use of that word along with lots of other things about the coverage of associate cricket in the "mainstream" cricket media which is awful anyway - just watch any of the games featuring scotland, afghanistan and especially the UAE in this world cup. Its not like "associate" takes much longer to type or say and it makes it much clearer what you are saying while being much more respectful.

although i think it looks it makes your first post look funny because it looks like you said "shitty teams" even though that isn't censored

LOL alright then. Dont really want to argue over this :)

Hope Ireland can make a match out of this. And get that big game out of their system so India and SAF are safe :spy

That pull by porterfield was very gary kirsten-esque. Delightful

I forgot to put Porterfield in my fantasy team :(

He's a proper good batsman; IMO the best in any associate team (although that role really should be held by Eoin Morgan)

e: The West Indies may live to regret not running out Stirling there

18 run over .. that was just brilliant strokeplay by Stirling. RRR 5.7. WIndies in deep trouble here

As of a few balls ago; Ireland had scored almost 100 runs more than the West Indies had by that point in the game. 350 at least seems to be par for this pitch against these bowling attacks

The West Indies had around a ten over spell where they averaged less than 2 an over and averaged below 4 an over between the power plays: and in my eyes even if you manage to go mental enough in the last ten (as the Windies did) you can't possibly win if you go that slowly. Ireland have gone around 6.5 consistently throughout, which meant that they didn't dig themselves in a hole and need to rely on a big attack at the end.

Not to demean the efforts of Stirling and Joyce and the other Irish batsmen who've batted very nicely, they've paced the innings perfectly and really never looked like losing the game
