World Cup Group B - Pool Matches Discussion Thread

Upset Coming . Well Done Ireland and well done Stirling :clap

Switched on with West Indies 2 down and have been enthralled all the way. Dominant spin bowling from Ireland followed by a great recovery from the West Indies to get over 300 but ever since the first ball of Ireland's inning they haven't looked like losing. Awesome knocks from Stirling, Joyce and Niall O'Brien.

But it also says a lot about the pitches, every team has made 300+ despite South Africa being 4/80 and West Indies being 5/90, to be able to get past 300 is just something that should not happen from that position

Well done Ireland. Looks like no team in this group can take Ireland and Zimbabwe lightly. More so India with the kind of bowling that they have. Also India have to play both Ireland and Zimbabwe in New Zealand conditions, where they have not played at all during this tour.

I have a feeling India might be in for an upset against either one of these two. And WI look crap this time. I wont be surprised if WI dont make it to the QF.

Fell asleep after the West Indies innings, didn't expect to wake up to an Irish victory!

Well Done Ireland, what a win!!

I was going through the squad, and while many are inexperienced as one would expect, however to be fair, they have a lot of players who have played in the English County and that is excellent experience for someone not from the non - test nations to have. Not only have they played, some of them have very decent numbers there.

They are not to be overlooked, especially when they are playing in NZ. They are used to some serious green tops in Ireland.

I know there is really not that big a demand for an 11th test nation, but I think I would put Ireland on the forefront. Afghanistan is the other option, but given the situation there, I doubt there would be too many nations willing to travel there and play a series. So it would effectively a waste of a test slot.

Kenya had a good run for a decade, but they have fallen off the radar now. I think we should go ahead and Ireland as the 11th nation before they drift away too.

The moment Ireland started their chase, it felt like they will be successful. Their batsmen seemed so very much at ease and had this air of confidence around them. I think the Associates will be a lot more pumped up to show the ICC that they belong on the same stage as the Test teams

Well played Ireland. At the same time, it is sad to see the decline of West Indies. They were just not in the game once the second innings started.

Group B is the group of death indeed. Only weak-ish team there is the UAE, and who knows what they have in store

Excellent stuff by Ireland and probably a word of caution for India and Pakistan (Pakistan specially).

Games like this (the WI vs Ireland) are the reason why the 2007 WC format was scrapped. Ireland won the game vs WI. If Zimbabwe had also won against SA (lets imagine that), then both teams would have qualified for the Quarterfinals at the expense of more popular/better fan followed teams. Also people who say test cricket is the best format since it tests players skills over a 5 day period instead of one day or 3 hrs (i.e. T20) should be favoring the current World Cup format which tests players skills to keep winning consistently. If Ireland and Zimbabwe can back their performances over the 6 match period, they deserve to go through. If not, they don't.

West Indies have been in tatters since the escapade in India. Taking nothing away from the Irish they played well but cant see them coming out in front against the Indians or Pakistanis, as much as I would love them to whip India there is always the Kohli factor.

So only NZ and SA are safe in this group.

Edit: SA and no one else are safe. (NZ are in group A)

Seeing them play against Afghanistan in the warm up match the other day - they are on par with them as a team. The problem is the teams that I'd have them pegged to be close with, Ireland and Zimbabwe have performed brilliantly so far - so I can't see them getting a win over either of them.

Their performances will be better than a look at their overall result will be.

Looks like they cant be pushed aside either. This will be pretty darn challenging for ZIM.
