Group D (England, Ireland, West Indies) - 10th Match Ireland v England

England were never going to win it really, it was just stacked too heavily in the West Indies favour.

Really? And just what was? The fact is we got 30 runs in 2.2 overs, that set the tone, rain or not!! I guess we can ALL speculate as to what would or would not have happened had it not rained, I have seen West Indies gotten the short end of the stick with D/L and maybe today England did, it does not take from the fact that we got the total that was set before us and we did that from ball 1!!!

Bit unfair, if you know rain is probably gunna cut a game short, you swing and swing hard which is what the Windies did.

I'm not gunna say they don't deserve it, because they got a big score in under 6ovs but the D/L rule does need to be revised for T20 because its far to easy to manipulate.

You really think winning a hugely D/L affected game against an average T20 side is going to revitalise West Indies cricket? It won't. West Indies have put in better performances than this against England in the recent past that should have had an impact but didn't. This does nothing for the future of West Indies cricket.

Agreed, I hate how people just say statements like that. :facepalm

That sucked both matches cut to a 20/5 game, hate seeing a match decided off 5 overs. Unlucky for England, you look to be a much better T20 side this competition and not much can be read from this on the 2nd innings front.

You think it is? What do they sell at Sport events like these, food, rum, booze, beers you name it, the ads is simply saying don't drink and drive, it was not meant for kids by the way!!!
Then again, maybe it is a "pathetic advertisement", I guess maybe we should have two guys on their backs looking up into the blue sky and wrestling for a cell phone!!

Dude, what in the world are you smoking? :laugh

It should be revised and frankly the ICC have had enough time to get it fixed, I like every other West Indian would have love to see the full 20 overs win or lose!! Because persons pay good money to get in there, but in the end eat, drink and party West Indian style, they lost nothing. I guess cricket lost today!!

I am happy WI won the match. but tbh i think this D/L in T20 is kind of unfair.
I think they should come up with something else. instead of this type of Calculation. Because Batsmen always would get the Advantage.
Also Sri Lanka were lucky today, that Zim didn't strike the ball hard like what WI did. if not Sri Lanka would be out unfairly.

It is amazing how some people move about this forum, and believe that they have the fix for our cricket, one series win against Zim or a BS result due to D/L and persons talk about this and that helping our cricket or our cricket getting a boost, now that is pathetic!!!

uRGHHHH back to back tournaments & this stupid duckworth-lewis rules corrupts a England vs Windies game. Collingwood should have never agreed to come out i f they could play 20 overs of a better equation to defend. They needs to be a totally new D/L system for T20 cricket.

Anyway that top 5 from England impressed as expected. Luke Wright looked good batting @ 6. He is improving ever so slightly i must admit (given that im a big crictic of him). Will be interesting to see if Wright can maintain such form batting @ 6 throughout the tournament though.

Very distrurbing that Bresnan is batting above Yardy however.

Bresnan did not even face a ball, he just came out in the last over to muscle one or two over the boundary. I doubt he would come in over Yardy if it was any earlier than the death

Bresnan batted above Yardy in the warm-up vs South Africa too. See here

You don't think that they were just playing their natural game and punishing the bad balls that England bowled. From what I saw in the first 2.2 overs both Chanderpaul and Gayle played at a 20/20 pace before the rains came. West Indies did what they were out to do and that is win the match no matter what score they were chasing. Its not their fault that the Broad cant bowl at the death or any time during a 20/20 match.

Err, no. A win means momentum, that they can carry forward into future matches and hopefully continue to win. WI is a very temperamental team, and an early win for them is absolutely critical in any sort of tournament IMO.

I think they have the team to win the tournament. Fantastic openers, super fast bowlers, huge hitters, and complete allrounders. WI cricket needs them to do WELL in this tournament (Semi+)

But it does nothing for WI cricket, which is what you said.
