Group E - England, India, New Zealand, South Africa

NO! A test is not a warm up for a T20. He needs to be brought in here. Obviously it's too late now to change the squad but India are desperate for fast bowling options. Spinners - they've got plenty.

Who talked about T20? I don't value this game much. You asked for future Indian fast bowlers to take the place of Agarkar. I mentioned him as being one ;)

I am more concerned about India's performance later this season. This T20 is not a true test for any kind of cricketer.

sad to see india lose, but i have to still stick to what i said. we need someone else who can bat, and yusuf pathan would of been great option. he bowls spin and that would take the pace off the ball, plus 10 runs he could of got them. i think uthhapa not performing was also a big factor.

India's Current captain Dhoni :p

Who is just two matches old as captain.

But look at Agarkar who has been playing cricket for india for the last 8-9 years he cant use his so called bloody experience.

Other than Agarkar, who is the other Mumbai representation? So Agarkar has to play (BCCI line of thinking). Had Sachin been there, Agarkar might have sat out.

India gave up today in a game where they should have won. The Durban games will be a real test of character and India cant afford even a single slip up.

Sehwag batted very well today and showed some glimpses of his best form. Gambhir was brilliant too. Some hope for us to challenge England and South Africa in Durban. We have to get in Piyush Chawla for Agarkar or some fast bowler and our attack should be fairly good. We dont need more than 3 fast bowlers, and going with 4 on a Wanderers was akin to standing in front of a speeding bus waiting to be run down by it.

May be Dhoni can go to No.3 (one down) and see how he does there. He now has the license to choose his batting place. Uthappa did well lower down in the Oval ODI. So, Dhoni should move up.

I saw Cricinfo where Shastri says if India win one of the two matches, they have a good chance of making the semis. How is that going to happen? I think they need to win the next two for sure right?

No. I don't think so. It's unlikely that they'll go through winning just one but it's possible. Eg.
Code:
                   W L Points
SA 3 0 6
India 1 2 2
New Zealand 1 2 2
England 1 2 2
India could then go through by net run rate.

i expect africa to be the most hardest team to beat as they are at home. if afria win today. england beat new zealand. africa beat new zealand then india beat england, then a win for india against africa would be enough, howver if they lose then it will go to run rate

The whole T20 thing is a lottery in any case. I'm not saying this because India lost, I've been saying this about T20 right from the beginning.

The team which has more luck wins on the day. New Zealand's top edges flew out of the ground while India's top edges found the fielder. And of course, India's innings slowed down in the middle. Otherwise we'd have cruised home.

I don't deny that India played badly, but they didn't play *that* badly and of course batsmen are going to flop when they are forced to hit out straight away.

And oh, give New Zealand some credit.

My god I hate the Saffas, great to see Snape playing but Maddy shouldn't have been dropped imo. Hopefully England can gve them some problems today, revenge for the rugby.

Wicket for Broady!!! :D

We lost by just 10 runs. Given the start by our openers, we should have cruised. Even though we lost many wickets in the middle overs, we still came 10 runs within striking distance of victory. Yuvraj has played only two matches. Dinesh Karthik also failed, Dhoni wasnt convincing.

Wait until we play the next two games. I wouldnt be too critical of our team. They have put up an encouraging show so far. Only hitch is this 'Agarkar' is spoiling us badly.

India's close defeat could actually help them if they win only one match and the other results go their way for the second spot to be decided on net run rate. Isnt that so?

This was a great chance to win but India as always threw it away. Vettori bowled well but they should have gone after other bowlers. After Sehwag got out the batsmen lost the plot. Even while bowling Agarkar and Sreesanth and Yuvraj leaked too many runs. Pathan didn't bowl his quota  Apart from some good performances by Sehwag, Gambhir, RP and Harbhajan it was really poor cricket from India.

South Africa isn't having the start I expected. Smith and de Villiers are already gone.

To be fair,as hari puts it,its a lottery.
Anyone can win it.
Bangladesh might spring up a surprise by winning the tournament.

Ahh well,i believe,it was lost in the overs 10-13.
India were in a commanding position at that time with 103-2.
Dhoni-God knows what has happened to him all of a sudden.
Why take singles ?
Same with Yuvraj....

Two dropped catches in two deliveries of Boucher. First Anderson, then Wright. Next ball after that Kemp hits a six and Boucher a four. That's what happens if you don't take catches.
