Hindi Cinema Discussion

Chennai Express was ordinary. I mean, I didn't mind the gags that SRK and the team took at the liberty of Tamil people. But after a point, the jokes became stale. I have never enjoyed Rohit Shetty's comedies (except for the first Golmaal).

Deepika was excellent, even though her accent has been infamously derided. When she speaks Tamil, we Tamils wished that we had no ears.:p Good to see SRK play a 40+ character, but again his expressions get to the point where you feel "seriously how long will you live with all this". :facepalm Songs were good and nicely picturised. Overall: 2/5

5/10 for Chennai Express
8/10 for Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara
:)

Chennai Express on track to break the record of 3 Idiots as the lifetime biggest grosser of Bollywood cinema. It has already broken Yeh Jawaani's record. Next in line is 'Ek Tha Tiger' and '3 Idiots'. And CE needs 10 more crores to be the No. 1 grosser.

Chennai Express won't break 3 Idiots record :rolleyes I wish it won't happen

Chennai Express has already broken 3 Idiots all time collection record of 202+ crores. CE now stands at 224+ crores and counting. (Source: Bollywood Hungama).

Its sad that the quality of the film doesn't match up, but the record has been broken. I expect Aamir to give it tough competition with Dhoom-3.

My heart is broken :noway:noway:noway:noway:noway:noway:noway:noway

It is hard to believe that people are more interested in these masala flicks than some well documented movies, quite frankly there have been many good works this year itself.

Watched Madras Cafe yesterday. Can bet it is better CE, even though I didn't watch the latter.

The funny scenes in the trailer weren't actually funny, then I'm not a big fan of these Indian action movies which just lack a basic storyline, didn't even like Dabang, etc. Even these actions scenes look pathetic on the screen.

Fine, this is a personal opinion, but anyone here who watched both Madras Cafe and Chennai Express would want to intervene? Talk about how we cannot compare two things with different bases, but do films like CE really deserve this breakthrough, over films like 3 Idiots?

Its just that we have to get rid of this thought that the Indian Box Office is a decent barometer for a film's quality. Box office can be manipulated very easily. By stars, by marketing, etc. If you use that to decide a film's quality, you will be calling some really trashy films as "the best ever".

I don't correlate anymore between BO collections and a film's quality. Yes I do talk about BO collections just for the wow factor, but apart from that, I will watch a film based on reviews, audience feedback, personal tastes, etc. Anything else other than BO collections.

I thought Chennai Express was great. It was very funny and I laughed at it more being south Indian.

It isn't meant to be a serious movie, just a light-hearted comedy. I think it did well to accomplish that.

Saw an extremely good film and an Okay film recently. The good film is "Raanjhanaa", an excellent movie by Aanand L.Rai which launched the excellent actor Dhanush into Bollywood and "boy! he earned it!!" is what one would say after watching the movie...Awesome from beginning to the end, I just loved that movie!. The Okay film which I saw was "Student Of The Year", a predictable storyline with decent performances by the newcomers.... :)

I always try to ignore Hindi movies. The best two movies that I loved are '3 Idiots' and 'Chandani Chowk To China'. Just watch comedy films sometimes. But I never miss any Hindi song.

Been quite some time since its launch but hasn't been posted here

Looks really promising!
