Hindi Cinema Discussion

Hearing great things about D-Day, which is releasing tomorrow. But as always, twitterati can be too nice and generous about films. But the songs of D-Day have been brilliant, and I am actually hoping that we can produce some really exciting thrillers on a more consistent basis.

Not too keen on Ramaiya Vastaavaiya, as have seen its original versions in both Telugu and Tamil. Sruthi would be good, but the hero looks plastic and unimpressive. Its not a typical masala flick like the Dabaang series, etc. But its a love flick with a good tinge of masala flavor to it. But wonder why Prabudheva decided to remake it back in Bollywood when he made the original in Telugu lifting scenes from various Bollywood films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, etc?

Saw Bhaag Milka Bhaag today. Brilliant movie. Loved every bit of it.

Both Milkhas (Farhan and the child artist) were fabulous, and so was Divya Dutta. Yograj Singh (Yuvraj Singh's dad) did a good job too. In fact everyone was good in the movie.

A very well made movie, and the reviews and the epic IMDB rating is just a reflection of it.

There were so many elements in Milkha Singh's life - partition, family tragedies, train-lifting, imprisonment, army stint, love life, and most importantly his sporting career, and everything was very well portrayed. I simply loved the movie.

Nice review. Mostly agree! The IMDB rating (though its due to the initial euphoria) gives the film a very good credibility.

In fact, heard Milkha Singh was saying that this film cannot portray every bit of his life as that would take 10 hrs or more to make. If someone else (or even Rakeysh Mehra) can do more films to capture Milkha's life more, it would be great enough.

D-Day. A spectacular film which ends on a high. The best part of the move is that it is fast paced and just when you think it should be the end, you realize their is still almost half of the film left. I loved every bit of it. Especially, the songs which cover important events in the film and does not look like forced or not required like in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Acting is extremely good by all but the standout performers are Arjun Rampal and Rishi Kapoor.

Been waiting for its review. Thanks a ton :thumbs
I'm sure you wouldn't want to specifically mention how great Irrfan Khan is then :D

Still have to watch Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Irrfan Khan is so good an actor I have started taking for granted he will be good in any movie he is a part of. A bit like the legends, Kadar Khan, Amrish Puri or Pran. Btw, yes, his work has been good as well as so is that of Huma Qureshi (never watched her movie before). Everyone has worked very well including Shruti Hasan but still, Rishi Kapoor and Arjun Rampal needs a special mention. Arjun has never looked so good in any of his movies before and I'm loving how Rishi Kapoor has settled himself in the negative roles. Hard to tell him he was once Bollywood's most favorite lover boy.

Yeah. Saw it in the morning, and tbh, they're trying to go the Hollywood way of mass destruction. I particularly liked Krishh cause the action scenes were good, and didn't look weird as if they were trying to copy everything ( and fail as most movies do). But this time I do get the opposite impression, that if the action scenes do look terrible and excessively done, it wouldn't be good for the series.
Nevertheless, it will break records.

Yep! It had to happen coz' they are introducing RoboCop and Catwoman in the movie.

Yeah... As the title indicates. :)

Chennai Express. Okay movie. Make sure you learn some Tamil before watching it.

Deepika's accent is too good. Shahrukh Khan does his usual antics and even makes fun of his past films. The biggest drawback of the movie is many dialogues are in Tamil and they don't have any subtitles (!) which is a big let down if you are not familiar to Tamil language. Other thing is what you usually expect in a Rohit Shetty movie. If you are an ardent Rohit Shetty/Deepika/SRK fan, you will like it. If you haven't liked the past comedies from Rohit Shetty and are not fluent in Tamil, better give it a miss.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Good acting for a debutant by Girish Taurani. Shruit Hasan looks pretty and Sonu Sood does full justice to his role. Mushtaq Khan's comic timing is too good but he is underutilized. Instead they have used Paresh Ganatra a lot who at times becomes annoying. The movie reminds me of the 1998 Salman Khan-Kajol starer Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya. The end feels a bit left out. It could have been if some scenes of Poonam Dhillon would have been added in the end. Overall, acting is good, the story is nothing new and the execution of the same could have been better. That said, it is a good timepass movie.

Bajatey Raho. A waste of time.

Once upon a time in mumbai doobara?

I don't think the cast they have is right for that kind of movie. I mean Akshay Kumar definitely won't match the role that Ajay Devgan did. Imran Khan is a bad actor so I have no hopes from him. In my view only the storyline can save the movie.
