The trailer of MNIK (SRK-Kajol-Karan's next) looked really impressive. Shahrukh actually has something new to offer as he is trying an autistic character. In the trailer, he showed some glimpses of what he was doing and it looked good to me.
The songs will catch up soon too (on first hear, most of them sounded average, but they are catching up, esp. Tere Naina and Rang De). I think Fox promoting the film worldwide and the fact that this is SRK-Kajol's next release after Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Ghum (as hero-heroine) and that too in a Karan Johar film is going to result in incredible hype. If the film is good, then imagine the kind of records that will be broken. People will forget 3 Idiots in a flash if MNIK is above average.

I doubt it'll break the records of 3 Idiots even if it turns out to be an above average film. 3 Idiots was a really great comedy film, and people of India tend to enjoy such films a bit more. Almost 50% of the people who watched 3 Idiots, went for it twice. I doubt this will happen with My Name is Khan. It'll certainly be an above average film, though it may not break all those records.
Speaking of records, I think it'll break the record for most earning overseas. Shahrukh is very popular outside India, and now that it's Shahrukh and Kajol together, the film has to sell.

Yeah, the repeat viewing might not be as good. But the hype for the film is going to be awesome since Shahrukh and Kajol are coming together as a pair after 8 years (and all their 5 films as a pair are super duper hits/blockbusters). And this time, its going to be Karan (KKHH and K3G). They have everything going for them.
I still feel that if the film is decent enough, it can give 3 Idiots great competition even in India. Since SRK is playing an autistic character, ,most probably he will emotionally appeal to the people out there in India. Anyways, this is really good news for the industry that 3 Idiots is a super blockbuster and we have one more mega movie coming very close on the heels. Hrithik has brought quite a lot of money into the industry in the last few films. He's a bit too selective though, but a brilliant actor and above decent looks, and fantastic dancing. A complete package.

My Name is Khan doesn't look bad, but don't you guys think that the plot is a bit "yesterday"? 9/11 happened nearly a decade back, yet films, centering it. are still being made.
Idk why I'm clicking over this thread over and over. I can say '3 Idiots' sure pinched me some love for Bollywood. I check this always to see supporters of the film going crazy and like, "yay there you go, another fan", "ftw 3 idiots", and i love for that bit because the film is so good!

3 Idiots is still behind Sholay in terms of profit.

It will beat that record pretty soon. With Sholay, its more of nostalgia because it was a landmark film in Bollywood and brought unprecedented hype and hoopla for Bollywood with all the money, etc. '3I' is a superior film in terms of entertainment than Sholay (I know I am setting myself up for some serious brickbats but I am a huge fan of Sholay too but its my opinion).
P.s: How many of you follow the Bollywood stars on Twitter? Latest one to join the bandwagon is the biggest of all - SHAHRUKH KHAN! Dont know whats so addictive about Twitter but every Bollywood star is on there (except a few), updating about his/her personal life. Some big ones are Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Karan Johar, Shahid Kapur, Priyanka Chopra, Genelia, Anushka Sharma, Vivek Oberoi, etc.
