And the movie had a message, and it was similar to that Taare Zameen Par had. That was 'just do what your heart tells you to do, dont do anything if you are forced.'

Taare Zameen Par got the message across to the audience without even trying but in 3 Idiots I think they tried to knock it into our brains.....thats the only difference.

I also think the principals punishments and dialogue were a bit crude and unecessary, they were exaggerating a bit too much.

They've hardly made any exaggeration. That's the way our educational system goes. Stereotypical, one-dimensional, monotonous...and all similar kind of adjectives. The reality does sound bitter at times, but that doesn't change it.

Well I loved the Ragging and the 'Balatkar' scene in the movie. Pregnant see was a bit over but it doesnt take anything out of the movie. The Balatkar part :rtfl i loved that guy's accent.

Sharman joshi & Maddy are class actors

Aamir's movies are one of those releases, which keeps box office collection and bollywood alive, as the foreign movies like 2012, avatar rule the screens.

Kareena didnt suit with Aamir. over-acts

Chetan0304 added 1 Minutes and 27 Seconds later...

True. i take my words back. Aamir started from where he left i.e TZP.

:facepalm

You gotta be kidding me! Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai were far better than 3 Idiots. I liked 3 Idiots (you can read that few pages back) but saying it's better than the Munna Bhai series is just unthinkable. Also, Sunjay Dutt's acting in Munna Bhai was much better than Aamir's acting in this film. The story line in both the films were far better when compared to the story line of 3 Idiots. To add to that, Vidya Balan's acting was 100 times more better when compared to Kareena Kapoor's.

Another :facepalm

That seen was the weakest part of the whole film. Apart from what he made from the vacuum cleaner, everything sucked about that seen. Also, the part where the baby became alright after saying 'All is Well' was pathetic to say the least.

Though, I still liked the movie. It was the best movie of last year. And, it is still worthy of 4 stars.

Aamir, Maddy and Sharman put together for me beat Sanjay Dutt and Arshad put together (MY OPINION). I didnt care much for Vidya's role nor did I care much for Kareena (Gracy was the better of the lot in Munnabhai-I but still she didnt have much to do in that film). So I will put them out of the picture. Yes, 3 Idiots reminded you at times of the Munnabhai series, but for me the overall entertainment and the happy moments that I got from this was a lot more, which is why I rate '3 Idiots' to be more entertaining and it spread more messages.

Using car batteries to bring back power, Aamir doing the delivery, bringing and building all tools required for that scene, were all good and none of them sucked. Only part that could classify as "OVER" was the baby reacting to "Aal is Well" (they thought the previous scene where the baby kicks in his mother's womb when Aamir comes to Kareena's house and says "Aal is Well" would prove to be a logical prelude but they could have avoided the baby not crying and then crying after the utterance). Apart from that, everything about that scene was good and it was the highlight moment of the 2nd half.

Dude, how hard is it to act like a typical Mumbai dada? Not difficult at all. Throw in a few 'apuns and 'mere ko's and that's basically it. But Aamir's versatility as an actor is unmatched, especially by freaking Sanjay Dutt. He goes from the MONSTER of Ghajjini, to the wide eyed idiot that is Rancho. I thought he pulled off the young bit well too.

More than Aamir though i think the side actors played brilliant roles. Madhavan was fantastic, and Sharman Joshi was phenomenal as well. But my god, Chatur's character acted SO WELL!

I loved the scene in Raju's house, the 1950s thing. So funny, especially when she scratches the husband with the roti thing :p! And when they take the dad on the motorcycle, I couldn't stop laughing!

Well said Rohit. Also the mother's dialogue "Iss Desh mein pizza 30 mins mein aane ki guarantee hain, lekhin ambulance? (In this country, pizza delivery is guaranteed at 30 minutes, but ambulance?)". TOP CLASS! And yeah, Sanjay Dutt getting into that dadagiri role was far easier (he already has that image of a dada in real life, going to jail, and all that). But Aamir playing a college student and making it look convincing is far tougher (most of the people who watched the movie got engrossed in the story and didnt mind 39-44 aged actors playing college guys). Aamir was better than Sanjay, anyday!

@Sai and Rohit.

I've already given you enough reasons to why Munna Bhai series was better than 3 Idiots.

Saisrini, you should compare a movie/scene on its whole. Any scene/movie can be made great if one removes the bad parts from it. In the same way, you can't take Kareena out of the picture and you can't keep the 'All is well' thingy apart from the delivery scene. One has to compare things as it is.

Rohit, I personally found Sanjay's acting better than Aamir (When comparing Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots). It may be easier to act like a Mumbai dada than a college student, but the fact is that you could easily think of Sanjay as a funny/calm Mumbai dada, whereas it was difficult to imagine Aamir as a college student. Also, we aren't comparing who is more better/versatile actor in general (which is obviously Aamir), but we are comparing the acting of Sanjay in Munna Bhai with Aamir's acting in 3 Idiots.

Not necessarily. The roles of Gracy, Vidya and Kareena do not change the overall perspective of both films because Munnabhai was all about Sanjay, Arshad and Boman and 3 Idiots is all about Aamir, Maddy and Sharman. Gracy was better of the lot but still, not enough to change my opinion about which film was better. We are not getting down to the minute 'man to man' comparisons to prove our point. Even with all those things remaining in the film, I rate 3 Idiots better than Munnabhai series.

Sanjay surprised us with Munnabhai, but with Aamir we all know that he is a great actor. Maybe thats why you feel Sanjay was better. I thought Aamir was better because as Rohit said, getting into the college student was tough and he pulled it off (atleast what most of the people said - many didnt notice). If you see, even Madhavan is 40 and he is a college student but no one talks about it. With Aamir, its star obsession (people know his age, and so no matter how he hard he tries, some will always find faults). Arshad was excellent, but here the combined strength of Maddy and Sharman exceeds it (Sharman himself gives tough competition for Arshad with his comic timing, Sharman is just such a brilliant find).

No matter what I say, you won't agree with me on the point that Munna Bhai was better, right? :p

So I stop the debate here.

The conclusion : For me, Munna Bhai wins over 3 Idiots and for you, it's the reverse.

regarding the acting part, its foolish compare munnabhai's role with aamir's in 3 idiots. both are completely different characters.

can aamir do a vaastav or a munnabhai......EPIC MISCAST.
can sanjay play a college going boy.....EPIC MISCAST.

Both Munnabhai (series) and 3 Idiots are great movies. Raju Hirani has been making some really excellent films, with message and with loads of quality entertainment. His next will be "Munnabhai Chale Amreeka" (Munnabhai goes to America). Cant wait for that!

Anyone seen the trailer of "Rann"? It's a movie about the partiality of the Indian new channels, and how it directly influences mainstream Indian politics. Looks to be a groundbreaking film with an unique story. Will hit the theatres soon.

I have to watch this film. The trailer really looks interesting. But what happened to the case that was filed due to the tinkering of the lyrics of the National Anthem? Will that song be censored out of the film? In this trailer, the song is still used.

Why is everyone complaining about Kareena? She didn't even have that big of a role.

And there's no need for chemistry, it's supposed to be awkward love! It's college after all :p
