Hindi Cinema Discussion

Okay lets not get into a game of prediction. A movie can go either way. I personally respect Mani Ratnam's work and expect him to come with the goods.
Plus I really want Ravaan to be really good, because the movies off late :facepalm
I mean I cannot seem to remember any good movie that strikes out this year

I agree. And Mani started to find his feet with the Bollywood industry with his last film 'Guru' which was a hit film (I have seen box office reports from reliable sites to prove this). And the promos of 'Raavan' released so far have packed quite a punch (esp. super BGM by Rahman).

SaiSrini added 1 Minutes and 52 Seconds later...

Raavan is gonna be a big flop in Hindi.:yes

Can't say about Tamil version.

I would say Hindi will fare much better than Tamil (both versions will be hits). In Tamil, it will run only in cities. In the rural areas, there will be non-acceptance (Tamil people in rural areas dont accept different kind of films easily; they want a big hero to bash 100's of goons, sing duet songs with heroines, do some comedy and save people).

Hindi film audience do not like these jungle films.

In today's multiplex world no film is flop as far as box office collection goes but its how audience react to film after first 10 days that decides its flop or hit.

Ash and Abhi look so bad together. :facepalm

That according to me, is nonsense! I can call a film that I like as a 'hit, superhit, blockbuster' etc and you can do the vice versa. Then we would have films that are hit for certain people and not so hit for others. And thats not how films are rated as hits or flops.

A film that earns a certain amount above what was fully invested in the film is classified as a hit. If it just breaks even, its termed 'average grosser'. If it gets losses (like Kites), its a FLOP. I dont agree that all films these days are not box office flops. Kites is a big example. Its going to entail heavy losses to its distributors (confirmed by IndiaFM and Rediff).

Maybe the Bollywood audience have so far not yet been matured enough to accept such jungle films. The film has so much more to it than just being in a jungle. I dont care if its a flop but considering the hype that the film has and the reputation of all people involved, there are heavy chances of it being a success (in fact, big success)

I saw Rann. Awesome movie. Looks like RGV still has some sanity left!

That Girl in Yellow Boots (2010)

This will go down as one of the greatest thrillers ever produced. Even those that don't watch hindi movies need to bookmark this (Kashyap doesn't like to interrupt the pacing with dances in his movies), and a couple of his movies beat their genre-best Hollywood movies imo (Black Friday, Dev D).

That could be one of the reason's people might not watch it. :(

Rann was actually above my expectations. It had an edgy kind of look as I watched the film. Sadly, something is terribly wrong with RGV these days. His stories have been deteriorating at an alarming rate. :facepalm

Kites has made 64 crore in first 3 days. So much for a flop. :p

You really liked Rann!? Frankly speaking, I myself couldn't make any head and tail of that film. Not to forget that the concept was exceedingly cliche. It had potential, but RGV just destroyed it by trying to be over-dramatic in every scene.

It will recover its money. MNIK was a flop but it made more than enough money. The only movie to not get par is Blue due to its humongous budget.

Remember there are TV rights also which go in big figures.

MNIK is not a flop. It recovered more than invested and got profits. In India itself, the movie got nearly enough money to cover its costs. It was just not as big as 3 Idiots, thats all.

Kites was a big flop, it deserves to be.
Housefull was a hit, I liked it also but never thought it would be a hit.

I love watching dubbed Hollywood movies lol

Speaking of which, I saw Godzilla in Hindi a few months back. Those Japs were calling godzilla "Bada Magarmach"
:laugh

Oh the best though was New Moon (of the twilight series)
The title was called:
*Drum rolls*

"Amavas KI Raat - Ek Khatarnak Prem Kahani"
:laugh
