Homework

1. If a^2-4a-1= 0, then find the value of a^2 + 1/a^2?
2. What's the value of x^3+y^3+xy when x+y= 1/3?

1) By shridharacharya formula, a= 2 +- 5^(1/2) (two plus/minus root five)
Couldn't think of any trick to make it look simple. So I suppose you gotta do simple maths here. Nothing tricky.

2) (x+y)^3 = x^3 + y^3 + 3x^2y + 3xy^2 = x^3 + y^3 + 3xy(x+y)
Put value of (x+y) now
So, 1/27 = x^3 + y^3 + 3xy(1/3) = x^3 + y^3 + xy
Answer : 1/27

I'm supposed to speak out some war prose tomorrow. First off I had to find what prose meant which I think it means 'words, that don't have to be in order or rhyme'.

So can someone find me or link me to some?

I am supposed to do a essay piece from History. About if life was better now or worse at the beginning of the 20th century. I was away sick for a week and a bit so now I have to catch up for homework. This teacher actually calls up parents, so I don't want that.

My intro sounds really amateur atm. "One hundred years ago we had poor transport, health, education, housing and no woman's rights. Today we may have an Xbox and a Wii but is that what really matters?"

Help me with it?
