More than aggressive declaration it was , as I said Rains and the Tailenders holding on....
In one match, Essex were ahead by 153 runs 9 wkts lost. Then Foster-Dias put on 60 for the last wkt as well as bided lots of time. By the time the last wkt fell ,some 30 overs leftout . Ended up at some 193/6.
In another match, after I gave a follow-on, the opposition were 8 down. Then J.Gillespie ( 33 n.o ) batted for about nearly a session along with the Keeper before the last session was rained off.
Another match about 4 hours lost due to rain on the last day itself.
Also there was the problem of bowling form. A.Mahmood was good in patches. Unlike the previous season this time he didnt get any '5 for, 6 for'.
J.Dernbach, S.Remmington, P.Sampson, N.Doshi, R.Ferley were good but they are not those '4 for, 5 for' type of bowlers yet. Which meant that A.Sunny carried the entire bowling burden. He got exactly 100 CC wkts but the rest of them didnt even get half of it. There lies the difference.
Last but not the least S.Broad was horribly out of form this season.
