Oh God
I think I'm the worst grammar student in the world. :-(
I agree with the last paragraph. Btw, the main reason Indians are poor in English is because of the school syllabus. More onus is given on grammar rules rather than spoken English. Many people know grammar defintions but they cannot read fluently or make a lot of mitakes while writing. My English was poor before I joined, I have improved a lot now I guess.you've seen some of the other people that post on these forums; I'd say that your doing pretty well, if only because I only need to read your posts once in order to understand them.
One of my best friends is Polish (lives in Krakow now; brought up on the German/Polish border); and her spoken English is fantastic but her written English is at times hilariously bad. Its not "I can't understand what you're saying" bad; its sometimes you'll end up with a weird phrase or expression that makes perfect sense in Polish; but is nonsense when translated to English. Sure, her English is much better than my Polish (its meant to one of the hardest languages to learn in the world: the average Pole isn't seen as "fluent" in their own language until they're 15; while for the average native English speaker its 12) but it doesn't mean that I can't laugh a bit at her...
I'm revising party systems in the developing world; and India has somehow went from being boring to having one of the most chaotic party systems in the world...

English isn't even our mother tongue..
You, sir, are a legend.

Funny you should say that because technically Hindi is supposed to be my native tongue, but my English is loads better than my Hindi. End up embarrassing myself whenever I speak Hindi, always make some form of grammatical mistake or the other and I have absolutely no idea whether it is something to be proud or ashamed of that I can speak a foreign language better than my native tongue.
You are really a interesting guy. I've came across such a man first time in my life.
Don't think so really, most people who I've met like me i.e those who have lived outside India for most of their formative years and then shifted back to India at around 12/13 face the same sort of problems. When I came back here I failed in the first Hindi exam that I gave.I've improved it a lot since then but it is still not at a level which I would call good.
My brother is exactly like me as well, he can't speak proper Hindi either.

Then where were you for 12 years? Where do you live now?
Had the same problems when I returned from Germany. But I came back by the age of 9 so my Hindi isn't badit isn't very good either, never got more than 80 in school.
Are you a South Indian by any chance? Most of the South Indian people I know including some teachers can't speak Hindi well but are pretty good when it comes to English.Don't think so really, most people who I've met like me i.e those who have lived outside India for most of their formative years and then shifted back to India at around 12/13 face the same sort of problems.
