How do people play the game? Game Modes

For what it's worth, I took one of the first suggestions in this thread and went with a career as a new created player in the England team, but controlling the whole team.

Currently during day 1 at the GABBA, and my guy has already been and gone for 5 runs. No fairytale start for him!

Well as Trevor Bayliss would say... your player "showed potential" and "learnt a lot" from the experience ;)

And there were moments that he was on top but couldn't sustain that pressure and the gap is a lot smaller than the score suggest! :p

And I don't really care because I'm focused on the ODI's and I'm off in 18 months.

Two Day Test Cricket

80 overs per day
x2) 2hr40min sesh
Compulsory closure at 40 overs
5 wickets per innings
8 ball overs
Unlimited bouncers
Max behind square 3
New Ball at 32 overs
DRS off
Follow on if trailing by 100

Just a shortened form I have made up. Worth a try as you still have time to shape some good contests and still use simulate.
I mainly pick both sides with 2 less Batters and bring in an all rounder or bowler at 6.
Or, I make it so each batter can only bat once in a test, unless they are not out in the first innings then they can carry their bat through to the second dig. Makes you have to save Batsman for the 2nd inning and have more Bowlers getting a bat.

Edit - Alternatively, if you want 6 ball overs, 55 over compulsory closure with new ball at 40 works well.

I think it is extremely important to spend a lot of hours inside Cricket Academy to shape your game. Setting all keepers stats to 90+ in close, back, and keeping will dry up some sundries. Making fielders 80+ for infield makes it slightly better. Buffing bowlers and lowering batsman stats gets a far more rewarding game. 85+ bowlers at 60 and 70 odd rated batsman makes for a good game.
Is there a way to disable wides for Test Matches?

Probably you can start with Standard Controls for both batting and bowling, if not already. Also lower the difficulty to Easy for both. Going through the Training will also help. The classic controls does takes time getting used to.[/QUOTE
Thanks for your reply. I noticed that there were two control schemes listed in the training but due to the lack of actual instructions on the game, and by that I mean for first time players, I just went with what was presented to me. I batted quite well in the nets but it was a completely different kettle of fish once I actually tried playing a match. I checked the settings and they were on medium difficulty. I'll drop it down a notch and try the standard controls as you suggested. Cheers

My way of extracting most fun out of DBC franchise and now from Ashes Cricket is to have a tour, a tournament and a career going on in parallel and I choose based on my mood on that day.

As I fancy bowling more than batting, I play tours in bowling friendly conditions with neutral teams, the ones I'm not attached to. I enjoy it more that way.

Whenever my dad visits, we start a T20 tournament, WCT20, IPL etc. and try to finish off as many 'fast' games batting from both sides chasing down totals. Heaps of fun in co-op.

Career gives a completely different sort of enjoyment where I play as an individual and not the whole team. Sort of, coming in to a situation and rescuing your team or building on the good work or finishing off a tight chase, whatever the situation might be. Very different from tours or team V team games.

And then my favourite mode - Casual with my real life club team taking on the mighty International teams. It is super fun especially when you've invested some time making the players, assigning them skills, attributes etc.

I'm thinking of taking my Club team on a tour to England. But gotta download the county teams first. Bless the good souls who create and share these with us.

So yeah, this game offers multiple ways to enjoy. I like to keep 'em all and choose the flavour of the day. ;)
Wow, sounds like you have alot of fun with this game. I just wish I knew others online, or even had friends I could play co-op with. Not one person on my friends list has this game which is a bit of a downer. I suppose I'll just have to keep practising and then try the online version, even if it sounds typical of online games with quitters etc. Cheers.

Yeah, I'm lucky in the sense I've folks around who like playing co-op with me once in a while. Now, if only I'm able to convince missus to try it out.

Online - I wouldn't recommend one bit if what you're after is cricket. Online is way more about winning than the actual sport itself. Unless you know the person you're playing with, I reckon you're just going to end up disappointed and very very frustrated.

Do try creating your RL in the academy. I did it only in Ashes despite having the option in previous 2 DBC titles and boy did I love it. It's also a worthy ROI as you can use it in career mode as well as tours and tournaments.

Last night, I've started a tour(with tour matches) to England with my RL team and I'm really looking forward to how it will pan out.

I Only Play Online , Pro20`s , 50 Overs , and Shorter 60 Over per Day Tests.

All against my Fellow South African Online League Mates , as the random online players is not for me , where its no holds barred anything goes for the win style.

I was looking for normal wides.

Yeah, it would be nice.
Best bet is to change individual player stats and set bowlers mentalities to precise or conservative. Pump all your wicket keepers stats up too and they will glove a little more.
Or, bowl some deliberate extras during your bowling innings to even sundries up.

Still far too many wides for balanced and above pace bowlers

I have a question. Does anyone know how tours/competitions are generated in career mode? I am yet to have a single overseas tour in my 2 year International career as an Australian Opener. (probably a reported bug).

Also, is there any mode available where you can play as an individual player? for example, if i set up a tour, am i restricted to playing as a Team only? i love test matches but don't want to play as an entire team & so playing it in career mode but the bug(?) above is bit annoying.

Appreciate any inputs.

I like Career. If you want to speed through the club career but everything on the easiest level and blast away. You’ll soon be playing F.C. standard and then raise the levels up.

just my $0.02. Play career mode as yourself. Make your own name (or alternatively see what its like to be a fringe player for your whole career!). either way, its up to you.
