I wanted to play one-dayers till September - Ganguly

Even with Ganguly in side India has found hard to beat Australia. Infact we have not been good in ODIs for 2 years now. I dont mind Ganguly outside. But I do have problem with Munaf Patel being inside.

Ya sid i found many people that love munaf so much..I read someone here gave him nick name "DADAJI"..lol..
I know he is like Grand father and P. kumaran should have chance if you want to play with 5 bowlers.

I think its depend on BCCI mind set.if they think that they are good with youngsters then ok but then Dhoni need to prove that they are good enough with young guys.and still ganguly deserve place in playing 11.
The point is in 2-3 years it doesn't matter if the young guys are good enough. Ganguly's body won't hold up. Instead of throwing them in then out of the blue, this is giving them a chance to understand international cricket. Ganguly may be in and out of the team but he is by no stretch of the imagination a probable for World Cup 2011.

Realistically looking at situation,Ganguly as sohum says,is not going to be a probable for 2011.Also,it would help alleviate problems if he & Dravid retire altogether from ODI's.

For 2011,I do not see Dravid,Laxman and Sourav playing and neither do I see Sachin playing. It makes sense to drop the Big 4 from the ODI's.Yes,the gap will be humongous, but you do have the likes of Rohit Sharma,Tiwary,Raina,Pujara,Dhawan[just to name a few] coming up.

So,if the youngster are given a free reign and allowed to play atleast 70-80 ODIs till the 2011 WC,obviously,by then, they will have become senior players.
Also,they will be experienced too.
Yes,initially, the team may lose a few games[or it may win them too],but I feel this is a step in the right direction from the Former India Captain and i should expect others to follow suit.

Regd Test matches, the Big 4 should continue till their bodies allow them to.By 2010,i'm sure the Big 5[add Kumble] will retire.Occasionally including the youngsters will definately help.

You can't just get rid of all of the big 4. Its leaves way too inexperience and you have to rely on players who haven't done a great deal yet on the international stage. They need the guidence from the older players if they are to succeed at the highest level.

Yeah, but for that you would need Indian players to retire. Apart from Kumble retiring from ODI's (I'm not sure if he did or was forced into it), you will notice that no one of note has retired. It seems Indian players just don't like to retire, probably because it is such a lucrative career.

I think one of Dravid/Ganguly should have been out last season. That would have allowed someone like Sharma or Raina to have had far more experience in the middle at this stage.

I agree. Sharma for instance has a role at number 5 in this series, which for a young is a big role. To fair India should perhaps have Uthappa there instead of batting him at number 7 or 8 in the last few games.

Number 5 is Yuvi and noone can come there. Number 6 is Dhoni and noone can come there as well. Rohit Sharma should bat at three. He has the technique to be able to play at one down and there will be less pressure of two wickets falling at number three.

Ganguly would do us a great service by retiring from ODI's. Its not always a necessity that he retire from ODI's while playing it. He can retire now and save the selectors and the team headaches. Same with Dravid. Our current ODI team are showing good promise and are being led by a very good leader in MS Dhoni. Ganguly and Dravid can concentrate on their test careers and look to end their international career in glory.

Yes, it will also bring Bengal back to senses as sohum said. Anyways, they will now have Tiwary.

Looking like we have reserved one place for Bengali.Seems to me Bengali people don't watch cricket if we don't have any player from that region?

Anyway Tiwary is a nice prospect and he can be very handy for india in ODIs.

Pretty much the case. That is apparently how they define "sports enthusiast". On that predicate I would have stopped watching cricket when SS Das was dropped!

Let the Big 4 drop out of the ODIs.They will still be ther ein the Test arena and they can guide the players as and when needed.

And for another,a young team,if given a free reign and if they are allowed to do things as they want,it will yield better results.

So you're just hoping that two more years down the line some really awesome player will be thrown in from the domestic system? Or do you think that Ganguly will just play on and on forever.

When Jayasuriya and 38 Year Old Legends are still batting like Young Lads, I Don't see any problem with a 35 Year Old. If Ganguly's been dropped, I'll slap, .... who's that....Yeah!, Vengasarkar..

Well,Jayasuriya's jsut been dropped for the tour of the West Indies.
What do you have to say now ?

God, the way they treat these veterans, I know we are trying to build a team for WC2011 but we should have let him play till September, he probably will not play another ODI again...:(
