Story ICC 2006- Lancashire 2009: Journey To The Top- (FC Match) Lancs- 36/3

Good presentation mate.... Suprise that SriLankans lost against Bangladesh!!!

Great presentation mate. I'll give you reps. Bangladesh are gonna win this world cup! And Australia looked rather puched to reach Scotland's poor total.

A very nice story here Blazer, your Photoshop work is top notch. Keep up the good work.

NEW ZEALAND VS KENYA What was predicted to be an easy win for New Zealand turned into a disaster as Kenya won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The Africans got off to a fiery start as they cleaned up the top three batsmen for low scores. J. Oram (53) and L. Vincent (61) offered some resistance in the middle-order but the rest of the batting order got totally demolished by some amazing bowling from Kenya. M. Shiekh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-60.

The Kiwi bowlers came out in the second innings, hoping to restore some dignity and honour by completely trashing Kenya on this green pitch. It all started off in fine fashion as J. Franklin cleaned up opener L. Onyango for just 1. C. Obuya (88) along with S. Tikolo (40) then restored the balance by forging a 76-run partnership before Gillispie and Oram tore through the middle-order. But some brave batting from the lower-order saw Kenya through to victory with 11 balls to spare- Producing one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history!

PAKISTAN VS ZIMBABWE
World Cup favourites Pakistan eased their way into the World Cup by playing Zimbabwe in their first match. Inzamam-ul-Haq won the toss and decided to bat first.

Taufeeq Umar (2) and Salman Butt (24) didn't last long at the crease as they fell early to the swinging ball, before veterans Younis Khan and Inzamam came to the crease and forged a gigantic 150-run partnership that saw Pakistan form a solid foundation for their innings. A misunderstanding in running between the wickets (as is usually the case when Inzi is at the crease) resulted in YK being runout for a very well made 119. The skipper was then very unlucky to be bowled out for 90. Mohammad Yousuf and Shahid Afridi came together for the last few overs of the innings and guided their team to a modest 264-4.

Pakistan were fielding a rather average looking bowling attack and Zimbabwe were hoping to take full advantage of this and get off to a good start. This was not to be the case however as a complete lack of communication between the batsmen meant that S. Chioza was runout with just a single run on the board. K. Kulinga (40) then guided Zimbabwe out of trouble before Kaneria and Arafat got four cruicial breakthroughs that put the pressure back on. J. Nyumbu scored a well-deserved 50 before falling to Ahmed. Afridi then cleaned up the tail and Pakistan cruised to victory, winning by 87 runs.

Lancashire's Shahid Afridi performed reasonably well for Pakistan by picking up two useful wickets.

Shahid Afridi: Good form at the WC could mean a successful season with Lancashire.

SOUTH AFRICA VS NETHERLANDS Another contender to win the World Cup this year, South Africa faced Netherlands in their first match. On a flat looking pitch, Graeme Smith won the toss and decided to bat first.

An opening partnership of 148 runs set South Africa up to scoring a big total. H. Gibbs (76) was first to fall to Khan's bowling, before Graeme Smith (119) and Jaque Kallis (45) forged another big partnership that saw their team past the 200 milestone. Some good work from D. Van wyk (42*) let South Africa reach a very strong 309-4.

Netherlands never had much hope of chasing down such a big score, and this showed in the batsmen's total lack of confidence at the crease. One by one they fell to the South African bowling attack- P. Joubert was easily the best bowler with superb figures of 3-23.

INDIA VS BERMUDA India eased their way into the World Cup by facing Bermuda in their first match. Bermuda won the toss and decided to bat first.

G. Singh got the early breakthrough and dismissed O. Pitcher (9). A small partnership between M. Ricketts (39) and C. Foggo (23) saw Bermuda past the 50 mark before H. Singh and Anil Kumble tore through the batting order and restricted Bermuda to 175-9 off their 50 overs. H. Durham was the only batsman to offer resistance with a gritty 45* but the Indian spinners had clearly dominated, picking up 8 wickets between them.

Bermuda got a glimpse of hope as they too got an early breakthrough by dismissing opener D. Jadhav for a duck. But after this however, it was an Indian show all the way. Sehwag ended up with an unbeaten 107*, with good support from the other end in the form of Tendulkar (60*). India ended up with a crushing victory, winning by 9 wickets.
