ICC Champions Trophy 2013 - England & Wales

Whoaa.... Crushing defeat! But hope it does not put India in an unnecessary overconfident mode. Still our batting was lucky to survive and credit must go to Dinesh Karthik and Dhoni. Especially Karthik is outstanding. :clap As Dhoni said, the guy has earned his spot in the XI this tournament. Either Rohit or Vijay need to go. I think they will play Rohit and keep Vijay out since Dhoni wants Karthik to bat in the top order. Opening with Karthik and Dhawan would be a better choice. Also Karthik is a brilliant fielder (still remember his catch to dismiss Graeme Smith in that T20 World Cup in 2007).

Brilliant effort from the bowlers, especially Umesh. Good to see Ishant among the wickets. So Bhuvi, Ishant and Umesh are the starting attack for sure. With Ashwin and Jadeja, the bowling attack is fixed.

Yes the team looks settled now. No need to bring in Irfan or Vinay for the game against SAF

But I would like if Rohit open batting with Dhawan as Karthik looks good in middle-order. He may fail at the top of the order. Please no more mercy on Vijay. :thumbs

No. Karthik is better at the top of the order. At the bottom, we do have the likes of Dhoni to stabilize and/or accelerate. We need some solid batsmen at the top who can build solid foundations for the likes of Dhoni and Raina to launch into the opposition. It would be ideal for Karthik and Kohli to bat within the Top four.

Dhawan
Karthik
Kohli
Rohit
Raina
Dhoni
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Ishant
Yadav

Karthik shouldn't be removed from the middle order. He has settled in pretty well there.

Simple logic. Drop Rohit from that team and move Karthik at 4 and let Vijay and Dhawan open.

Looks like the best possible line up. Rohit, no matter how much he disappoints, is certainly more talented than Vijay. The bowling line up you suggest looks perfect too! Hope thats the XI we see against SA.

Well that was an embarrassing performance from Australia. Brilliant win for India. Fast bowlers were looking good, I just wanted to see more of Ashwin. Hope he does good in actual tournament.

Oh wow - all out for 65! I'd like to point to all the Aussies playing on (5 inside edge bowleds?? come on :facepalm), and say that this was a blip that will never happen again. But I would bet anything that Australia will be skittled for under 100 more than once over the next couple of months. It's just the nature of their batting lineup at present, usually reasonable, but occasionally everyone fails at once. Hopefully they are just getting that awful performance out of the way in the warmups :thumbs

Interesting that Australia bowled not one over of spin. I seems as if this will be their plan for the tournament, since Doherty and Maxwell haven't bowled a ball in either of the 2 warmup matches. Not sure it's the right call TBH. Spin was never going to be the cornerstone of the Aussie attack, but at least having an option would be nice. Clarke's back will be dodgy so I'm guessing he won't bowl if he plays, it's really Voges that is the only guy who can bowl anything slow.

First of all, Afridi was never good. His name is what keeps him going.

Let me stop you right there...Afridi certainly HAS been good. When I researched my top 100 players in ODI history thread, Afridi came in at #86 http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/cricket-discussion/top-100-odi-history-2-tendulkar-1-richards-79643.html You can say he's been maddeningly inconsistent, but to say Afridi's never been good is pure trolling.

This.

These are just WARM UP GAMES, nothing more I wont pay much attention to them, good to see Yadav amongst the wickets though, a little more pace from him and he would certainly be a handful.

Well they saw DK and Dhoni playing on the exact same pitch for 35 overs, they did not seem to have any problems. Why? They did not cut at everything that was offered to them outside off. I can understand if one or two players gets out like that but 5? Even though the batsmen at the other end is watching how they are getting dismissed, they are still not learning and making the exact same mistake again. Philip Hughes has seen Matthew Wade get out to Umesh Yadav to a ball which was short of a length but hurried onto the batsman because of the extra pace of Yadav. Philip Hughes played the same shot as Matthew Wade to an exact similar delivery by Yadav and you get the same result. And than again you see Watson playing the cut shot to Ishant Sharma and you have no other option but to do this :facepalm

Geez in one match we have gone from looking in great shape to in serious trouble. However little has changed before this warm up apart from a further dent in the confidence. Our top order will have to make the bulk of the runs, we don't have a Hussey to rescue us although I was hoping Bailey would be that man. Further reason why I wanted Ferguson in the side.

Ok, this isn't right, we've now had 3 consecutive days of sunny weather. :p

It's hard to say if India look like a settled side. It's important to have everyone get a look in for warm up games. The results, no doubt, look impressive, however, the batting has mostly struggled. Other than Karthik, Dhoni and Kohli, India were a little off beat.

In my opinion, DK should open, considering the lack of resources. I don't think Rohit Sharma is the answer to the opening slot. DK, has opened in tests before and looks a little more compact to deal with the moving ball. I didn't understand the logic behind Vijay being picked in the squad in the first place, let alone the playing XI.

Haven't really given this any thought but a tad excited about it now.

Really open tournament and we should see some special cricket.

I think Kiwis have a real good shot at this title. They somehow lift their game up when it comes to big tournament. Too bad, they don't pass through Semis. India and South Africa could also make it to the semifinals or the last four.

As a South African the Proteas is my team. This team is a dream team, even without the likes of G. Smith and J. Kallis, both of whom are truly test players. The players who are in the side now, in England are all ODI specialists. This is why I believe this team is South Africa's best ever ODI team, even better than the one who won that first Champions Trophy Tournament. Go Proteas . . . You can do it!

The injuries have to be a concern though, surely.
