ICC Champions Trophy 2013 - England & Wales

Crazy blitz from Bopara towards the end making for those string of wickets.

I think if England had Owais Shah, the team would have crossed 300+. He is a real asset that is being wasted.

Sri Lanka in with a serious shout here. This group will become more interesting if Sri Lanka wins here. I am backing SL to win! But why is Kulasekara batting above Chandimal or Matthews?

Because he has just hit a half-century off 30 balls including 3 sixes.

I'll be honest, I was slagging that move initially too.

didn't expect that at all, thought england had batted with too much control and then with that great last over the target was beyond sri lanka.

Just because it clicked doesn't mean that its backed with logic. I would back a more specialist batsman to chase the target along with Sangakkara. Good for SL that Kulasekara clicked.

This leaves the group very open. All 4 teams can still make the semis. England go through if they win against NZ. Sri Lanka go through if they beat Australia. New Zealand go through if they beat England. Only Australia are left hoping on other results (they have to hope New Zealand beat England, and then Australia should beat SL). They have another route where they tie on points with NZ but their NRR is so bad and NZ's NRR is so good, that it would take a miracle for Australia to sneak ahead of NZ on NRR.

Practically speaking Australia's road is a dead end.Depending on other result to win is not really happening.I dont see Aussies defeating Lanka, maybe New Zeland might defeat England.

In all fairness, You dont really need logic to backup some decisions :)

Although this one does seem to have a fair bit of reasoning behind it. A lot of times in CT13 we have seen teams lose their way during the batting powerplay. Srilanka needed quick runs so as to not fall behind too much, and sending Kula was a well weighed 'risk' IMO. If they had sent chandimal or angelo, and they had gotten out trying to accelerate - it would have been a big blow to SL. On the other hand, losing Kula wouldnt be as damaging. so sending Kula was risky, but definitely had some thought behind it.

After the powerplay was over, I felt that the move had pretty much failed because Kula never really fired. But he turned up with a gem of a knock afterwards, which any pinch-hitter would be proud of :thumbs

That being said, Sanga was sheer class today.

Not really Sai.If Matthews had come Lanka would have surely lost the match.Kulasekara is a pinch hitter, they needed quick runs and they sent him just like India used to send Irfan some years back.Good captaincy by Matthews himself :p

Reminded me of the Srinath pinch hitting phase :P Remember him batting at no.3 against SAffers

So Kushal175822....... What is your take on sending Kulasekara at no.5, IMO you seem to be a ' conventions become rules ' guy , so this might have been another tactical error?

Another one of these pointless in-depth analysis' on mere instinctive acts and I might just have to put my 2 cents, and I'm thinking no one's going to like it. :p
