ICC Champions Trophy 2013 - England & Wales

I'd still go with the knock out format that was in use in 1998 and 2000. The knockout format makes the tournament more interesting and each and every game becomes important for each side.

So Kushal175822....... What is your take on sending Kulasekara at no.5, IMO you seem to be a ' conventions become rules ' guy , so this might have been another tactical error?

I'm Kushal, OK?

I think, Kulasekara played a good innings and took the pressure off Sangakkara. I don't think it was a wise move, even though it came off. The likes of Matthews, Chandimal and Thirimane would have been more obvious. These unorthodox moves come off once out of five occasions. You simply don't play the percentages anymore. But, that's captaincy. It's the hunch of a captain in a given situation. However, this situation is vastly different to the argument we were having. Like I said, I didn't mind the use of Kohli. It's a completely different argument.

Another one of these pointless in-depth analysis' on mere instinctive acts and I might just have to put my 2 cents, and I'm thinking no one's going to like it. :p

I don't think Vaibhav or I are trying to please anyone, not me in the very least. I'm not intending to, nor being offensive to anyone. This is a cricket discussion forum, where there will be arguments and counter arguments. That's why most people are here. If someone doesn't like it, I really can't care less.

For me, the moment of the match really was when Sangakkara slipped, was set to be run out, but Kulasekara was willing to sacrifice his wicket for the cause of the team. It didn't matter, as the throw was wild, but it just showed immense spirit and class from a pretty under-rated cricketer. :clap

It's not that I don't like arguments or discussions, matter of fact, I love them, but it's just that I've seen so many and been involved in so many of these "Dhoni's tactical acumen" arguments on mere instinctive acts that I just ooze hate at anyone who even starts one.

That's all, nothing personal, you do your thing though, at least you make valid points rather than "Dhoni gave Jadeja ball, Jadeja expensive, Dhoni bad captain". :p

That match is likely to be curtailed. I think it will work in favor as we have got some very powerful hitters in our side and if the match is reduced to about 35 overs an innings, we might see some changes in the batting department from the team that played against India the other day.

Hope you didn't take that personally.

Evryone was surprised actually!! Like WTF!! In the worst case it would have been Perera up, but then that is what it is, and the move clicked at about the right time!!

Nice to hear. I'm a Dhoni fan, and I know what you mean. There has been a lot of crap, written about his captaincy. I will say this though, this forum has left me a little disappointed. When I joined, I expected it to be a lot more active. :(

All good mate. :cheers

Come on AB!! Let's see some outrageous magic today. :yes

He might post a screenshot with comparison of Kulasekara and Dinesh Chandimal's batting average and tell us that it was a tactical error fromt the captain.

Nice catch that by Gayle!!
Saffers going good, and one of the batsman I was looking forward to, Ingram, finally got good runs!! The other one is DM Bravo, who has got starts, but I don't think he'll have a major role to play today.

WI are missing the trick here. Should have opened with the Smith-Gayle duo. They have had a good record together up the order. Charles on the other hand can hit it a long way which could have been useful at the later stages of the game.

Carn the Proteas!

A rare game where I want Gayle to click. C'mon Gayle! Knock the Saffers out!

Looks like Pollard has lost the match for the West Indies. If he had not played that wild shot and was not out,the par score was 187.WI are 190.Since he got out its 193.What have you done Pollard?I hate you even more.I wanted the WI team to qualify :(

Bad luck for West Indies. Pollard can't be expected to predict rain and when it comes. And it was not 193. It was 191 required for WI to stay ahead. This is a rare occurence where a game was tied on Duckworth Lewis. SA go through to the semis on better net run rate. WHATTA DRAMA!! Sad for WI. I wanted them to come ahead of SA.

All eyes turn to Group A now. That's the more open group. Before the tournament started, people thought Group B would be more exciting with high profile sides. But its Group A that's being contested more closely.

Aussies are out,so 3 teams fighting.Aussies may have chance when you take a paper, pen and calculate but not practically. Also they dont deserve to.

A dejected Aussie fan,but i still wish some miracle happens and Aussies win this tournament :( :( :aus:

I won't put it past Australia to beat Sri Lanka. Only thing is, they have to hope NZ beat England which is not impossible. NZ have been in good form this tournament, so its possible. If NZ win against England and Australia beat SL, Australia go through.

Its not just a paper and pen thing. Australia are still in with a decent chance.
