ICC Champions Trophy 2017

I just voiced an opinion which also happens to be shared by the Australian captain. Calling it atrocious is a little too judgmental of you.

No. The Australian captain like me believes they got out of jail, but the game was far from done and dusted. Steve Smith is the last bloke on earth to give up/in and from a knowledgable and sensible poster like you it is kind of daft to say that the points evened themselves out. The AUS-BAN game was a foregone conclusion while the AUS-NZ game was a game 70-30 in favour of NZ. But, you know well that these teams, specially Australia can turn that sort of thing around in a matter of 5 overs.

Regardless of our opinion, like I said last night, to have a 5 time champion team go out of a prestigious global tournament on a technicality is a very big question mark on the people that run our cricket. Even the possibility of such an outcome is outright farcical.

I was almost tempted to ask if we can bet whether there would be a result on each match ... almost :)

But the odds for NR will pay less as compared to a team. :p

I agree with your opinion on the organization. Every single game should have a reserve day, at the very least. I don`t think it would be that big a logistical nightmare, considering the fact that sides only play once in 4 days in the current schedule and we do not have matches in the same ground on two consecutive days. We had reserve days in the 1999 WC and it worked well. I remember a couple of games that were completed on the reserve day. The Ind-Eng game at Birmingam being one such contest. Remember that the 1999 WC was played in May-June and was more prone to rain affected games than this event. Only cricket could regress in terms of organization.

Also, another observation about the tournament. Why does Cardiff get a go every time? The atmosphere for cricket in Cardiff is underwhelming. I`m yet to see a vibrant atmosphere in any game at Cardiff, and that involves India matches. It always seems gloomy and boring, unlike a venue like the Oval or Old Trafford.

What an atrocious post. Basically you're saying that Smith, Maxwell and co. had no chance against NZ? You must be GOD!
NZ's bowlers aren't bad. It was 95-5 in favour of them.

I hope you know Southee, Boult, Milne, Anderson and Matt Henry are all IPL bowlers. How does the IPL figure in this conversation anyway? Why are you guys so obsessed and jealous about the IPL? If you were implying that the standard of cricket/bowling is poor in the IPL then I'm guessing you find all the other leagues even more rubbish?

Just watch today's game- NZ have kept picking regular wickets but England have managed 300 plus. I'm amazed that such knowledgable cricket fans are basically saying Australia were a write off in that game. I'm far from an Aussie fan but I have immense respect for them.

When on God's good Earth did he mention about the Ipl?

There are no domestic bowlers to smash here.

If you saw this year's IPL you'll know that the Kiwis economy rates on average were higher than our domestic bowlers. I'm not here to claim that our bowlers are better but I find your dig very very stupid. The basic fact is that if you're a bowler in today's day and age, you will travel the journey in LOI. The NZ attack is 'OK' and Steve Smith is regarded as one of the best batters in the world. He was batting on a flat deck and had he spent 4-5 overs on that day, you'd back him to overhaul any total. Maxwell? Well if it's his day the target and stuff like bowling attack etc all can go to hell.

I can't remeber one occasion where Maxwell went crazy against a top class attack.

Just look at this game- NZ looked nowhere at the 16 over mark.. Now, they are probably favourites!

England look all set to justify their pre-tournament favorites tag. It should take a pretty big effort for Australia to beat England and enter semis. Unless England let their guard down after beating New Zealand. England would not want the chance of facing Australia in the final and should ideally look to send Australia out early.

"The captain-coach relationship is almost like a marriage," Arthur said. "You've got to be on the same page all the time. And if you're on the same page, you get correct decisions and you give clarity to your team. And that's certainly where Saf and myself find ourselves; very much on the same page. I'm really going to enjoy working with him."

We might have a divorce soon.
