This is a 270-280 wicket and India might’ve gotten close to enough here. With our bowling and WI inconsistent batting, it’s 50-50 and that’s not bad. Dhoni actually batted well and took India to a par total when this could’ve easily gone bad. He did the same last game too. The controversy got magnified because the person commenting on Dhoni’s slow batting after last game was the man ‘Sachin Tendulkar’. Sachin’s opinion is respected, but I felt it was not entirely justified. Maybe he said it to give a reality check to MSD (these comments travel to dressing room easily)
I’m actually happier that these pitches and these top order failures and shaky middle order, is happening early for us in the tournament. Better get used to this and tweak plans rather than get surprised in knockouts (like CT2017). I wouldn’t again mind a loss here.
I think Shankar needs to be dropped and Dhoni pushed to 4. Due to Dhawan’s loss, No 4 has become tight again. Get Karthik in for the England game and keep him at No. 6. And I think Jadeja needs to play for one of the wristies, to strengthen our lower order. Also get Bhuvi in next game if ready. Birmingham is again not an easy place to score runs, and we need most of the batting reserves there.
