Cant wait for this series to begin! its going to be amazing and something to look back on. Shocked about Inzaman's expulsion from both squads as I thought he would have been up for captain of either squad. But Smith is inexperienced captains who have both played against Australia, but still new. when facing them (i think!) so it should be very interesting to see how the teams mix and weather they can all work together as a unit against a very strong Australian team. I think the one day series will be 3-0 to the World XI and the test will aslo of the world Xl!
Really disappointed for the captain, for the oneday team the captain must be michael vaughan and for the test team the captain must be either Inzamam or lara

It's a bit hard for him to captain when he doesn't even go close to warranting a spot in the team, he's the weak spot in the England one day lineup as it is.

I doubt it will be even near anything like that. I am going for 2-1 to Australia in the ODIs, and a comfortable win in the test match as well.

Taits figures in an ODI match will probably be something like 8 overs, 65 runs, 1 wicket.

I wouldn't count on it, he has a good record in domestic one-day cricket, including the most wickets ever in one innings in the ING cup.

I also am very eager to see Cameron White. Have been hearing a lot about him for more than 2-3 years now.
jw, why is geraint jones in your sig? lol hoggard n simon would have50+ wickets with a good keeper  anyways ur sigs are cokming along nicely :hpraise

I think you mean Hogg.

Yeah, that's what I meant. The look-a-likes names sometimes confuse me. Like Hodge and Hogg. First it was also Akmal and Kamal.

And now Tait is out too. They say Stuart Clark bowls like McGrath. I want to see his bowling one time.

Thanks to you langerrox.

Stuart Clark, well if he can bowl half as well as Glen McGrath, then its good news for Australia.

Don't be too eager, average batsman and can't bowl

White is a better then average batter. He is an average bowler.

As for Tait he will either get your figures or get 8/50. He is a destructive bowler. Bracken, Clarke best hauls are 5 fors.

They could have always of bought Gillespie back, rather then bring in another young seamer. I suppose the selectors have too big egos to do that. You can't debut a bowler against the worlds best batsmen like that. Mabee he won't play, I dunno.

Please no, definitely not Gillespie. He is out of sorts and was getting smashed to all parts of the ground in both Test and ODIs. Same would happen in this series.

Here are the 12 man team for the game.

Katich partners Gilchrist
From staff writers with wires
October 4, 2005

SIMON Katich has been named as Adam Gilchrist's new partner atop Australia's batting order for the first limited-overs match of the Super Series against the World XI, at Telstra Dome, Melbourne tomorrow.

Cameron White ... called up to replace Brad Hogg.

Katich had been widely expected to fill the role after Gilchrist's incumbent partner, Matthew Hayden, was dropped from the squad following a string of disappointing performances on the Ashes tour of England.

The Australian selectors otherwise pulled no rabbits from the hat after the inclusion yesterday of leg-spinning Victoria captain Cameron White, who was called up following the news that Brad Hogg had sustained a knee injury.

Hogg, a left-arm spinner, tore cartilage in his left knee at training, and he was due to undergo surgery in Perth today.

p>Left-arm seam bowler Nathan Bracken was also included in the 12, ahead of New South Wales teammate Stuart Clark, who was drafted into the squad late as a result of injury to South Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait.

Shane Watson and Andrew Symonds have each been named to fill an all-rounder's role in the side.

The World XI meanwhile announced a strong batting line-up complemented by three frontline spin bowlers in a 12-man squad for the match.

The selectors said they were expecting the pitch under the roof at Telstra Dome to play low and slow, hence they had included spinners Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, Daniel Vettori of New Zealand, and Shahid Afridi of Pakistan.

West Indies opener Chris Gayle and South Africa fast bowler Makhaya Ntini were the two players left out of the final squad.

India batsman Virender Sehwag is likely to open the World XI innings with Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara, atop an attacking and powerful batting line-up that includes nine players with Test centuries.

India's Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara of West Indies, South Africa's Jacques Kallis and England's Kevin Pietersen will make up the middle order, with all rounder Andrew Flintoff likely to bat at No.7.

In the field, captain Shaun Pollock and Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar are expected to share the new ball with Flintoff and Kallis the other seamers.

Each side will be allowed to use one tactical substitution during the match.

Teams World XI: Shaun Pollock (South Africa, captain), Virender Sehwag (India), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Rahul Dravid (India), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), Brian Lara (West Indies), Kevin Pietersen (England), Andrew Flintoff (England), Daniel Vettori (New Zealand), Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka), Shoaib Akhtar (Pakistan), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan).

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Simon Katich, Damien Martyn, Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Andrew Symonds, Cameron White, Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Nathan Bracken.

The tactical substitutes will be named tomorrow.

Watson will probably be the sub for Aus although White could also be the sub.

Especially if KP happened to be batting at the time he's bowling... :p

I don't know what to predict with this series. 2-1 either way in the ODI's and as for the test, the draw's pretty much ruled out i'd say, so again close, but can't pick a winner.

Does anyone in England know if the radio are covering the series?

This has absolutely nuthing to do with super series, but on the topic of gillespie!

I was watching a pro-am golf tourny on tv, and strauss was playing in it. He was tlking to some kids about cricket and they asked about who was the easiest bowler.
And you just heard strauss mutter...

"yea, gillespie, he was rubbish, definately the easiest to face"

Lol, I just found it quite funny, I hope gillespie wasnt watching!

12th men should be Afridi and Watson.
Afridi being 12th man depends on the toss, I agree he should be but only if World XI win the toss and bowl first, then bring him on for one of the spinners (probably murali seeing as he isnt as good with the bat as Vetorri) so he can start the innings with a bang! Plus then Sangakkara would be a handy batsman to come in down the order instead of wasting him at the top where he might get out cheaply, of course the same can be said of Afridi but we all know what he can do!!

Also dont agree with Gayle being left out, I would have thought they would have given him the nod to open with Sehwag as that would be very explosive, maybe more so than Afridi and Sehwag!!! So many possibilities!! :D
