I wasn't to happy they accepted the light. I wanted to see Gilly get his 100. Great batting by Gilly though.

well done by the aussies on the first day. who agrees with me that the new umpires rules should have been trialled in the one dayers only?

I think they've got it just right with the 3rd umpire. If the unpire feels there is sufficient doubt, he can confirm his decision, or alternatively, it can confirm an umpires suspicion (the Clarke bat pad catch). Overall, its a good move, which the umpires seem quite happy to take advantage of!

As far as we could tell at the time, Darrell Hair didn't confirm Rudi Koertzen's suspicion, rather the 3rd umpire was inconclusive and Koertzen went with his first instinct. Clarke's protest suggests that he didn't hit the ball.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to having two neutral umpires out in the middle for Test Matches?
Where would you find a neutral umpire for the World XI? Zimbabwe?

Yes because with the World XI line up they would really struggle to get anywhere near a target of about 400.

I have no idea how they picked the umpires for this match. I assume it was something to do with preference.

Zimbabwe because no zimbabwe player is in the team.
Maybe they could have done with having David Shepherd and Srinivas Venkatraghvan as the two on-field umpires to give them a good farewell gift.
This is something that the ICC must undertake.

I feel Simon Taufel got the nod seeing as he is the Umpire of the Year for two years consecutivley now.

Maybe they decided that since everything was being referred upstairs anyway there would be no need for neutral umpires :p

Lovely comment I read on the BBC website.
"Who'd have thought a few years ago that two Engishmen would be the opening the bowling for a World XI team?" :)

lol, yea, that is a lovely comment :)

Havent seen any highlights or footage from the game yet, but how did Harmisson bowl?

From the early parts I heard on the radio, he was bowling alot fuller than he did during the Ashes. Apart from the first hour, I know nothing!
