Tendulkar will miss Super Series
Tendulkar is recovering slowly from elbow surgery
India's Sachin Tendulkar has opted out of next month's Super Series against Australia as he continues to struggle with an elbow injury.
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is expected to replace him in the side, ahead of England's Michael Vaughan.
Tendulkar has not played competitively since he underwent corrective surgery in May on his left elbow.
"He will not be playing because he has not fully recovered," said cricket board secretary Goutam Das Gupta.
Although the batsman is back in the nets for light practice, he opted out of the ongoing Test series in Zimbabwe.
India are still hoping he will be fit for the rest of the season which includes series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, England and the West Indies.
The Super Series will pit Australia, still top of the world rankings, against a World XI in three one-day internationals and a six-day Test in October.
An ICC spokesman told BBC Sport the World XI selectors will meet this week to confirm replacements for Tendulkar and South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs, who has been ruled out of the one-day series with a knee injury.
Inzamam was upset at being left out of the original squad and originally threatened not to accept a late invitation even if it were offered.
But Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Salim Altaf said ICC general manager David Richardson had already been in touch to ask about Inzamam's availability.
And Inzamam said on Wednesday: "I have just been told by the board to give my confirmation for the Super Series.
"I am available to play because it is a big honour to play alongside the world's best."
