The field umpire, in general decides whether a ball has been edged, not whether it has carried.

On the plus side: Sachin looking much more positive. India should try and first get to around 300 without losing another wicket and then we can really turn it on.

Too bad that Zaheer is out injured. With him in the team for the next game, this test series could have really opened up a few possibilities for India.

VRV is a crap replacement for our top bowler.

I am not too worried about Zaheer's pull out. With Irfan being the possible replacement, I am confident in Irfan for wickets like Perth. After his comeback, he has shown that he can keep it really tight o benign wickets. He mixes up his pace really well these days occasionally hitting 140's. I feel he can do well in the absence of Zaheer, and he is experienced too. Irfan, RP and Ishant should lead the pace attack at Perth (which will surely be close to an ideal Perth wicket).

Absolutely. VRV is no match to Zaheer.
Though he has been flown to Australia, I doubt whether he`ll get a chance to play in the XI.
We must go in with RP,Pathan and Ishant for Perth.

You stole my words, didnt you? Oh wait, did I steal yours? Neither!

Ideally India should never have had to play Harbhajan on these wickets. Yes, he did take a couple of wickets, but the Aussies always target his bowling and he has bowled far too many dollies both at Melbourne and here. He releases the pressure built up by the seamers.

Harbhajan has tested the Aussies on occasions in these two test matches. He has performed better than expectations.

As long as Harbhajan doesn't play, all is well, we really should have taken Kartik.

He tested them? Sure, maybe in his first spell in Sydney, but other than that he has bagged easy wickets with lucky ones, and his attitude has been ghastly. Don't like him, at all.

Nah mate, Jaffer didn't do to well in the First Test but this Test, come one, what a ball by Lee. He had to get the feet out of the way and just drop the bat and hope he hits it. It was a cracker of a ball.

Jaffer has to go next match. He seems to be very slow in adjusting to the conditions, and he loves flat pitches. We should select Sehwag for the next test and have him open with Dravid. Its ok having two non specialist openers. Sehwag can attack allowing Dravid to defend like what he did today when Laxman was in full flow at the other end.

What attitude are you talking about??? What did he do?

Screaming at the fielders for not fielding like Jonty Rhodes, when he is rather average himself and he couldn't do anything to disturb the batsmen with his bowling.

Jaffer will play every match this series. I promise you that. The management have faith in him, and should do. He's done well in England and in Pakistan. A lot of openers fail in Australia, you can't have too much of a go at him. Yes he's done poorly so far, but you got to admit that he got out to good balls. He looks good as an opener.

They dropped Karthik after he did well against Eng, Ban, SA and looked better towards the ending of the Pak series, so wouldn't it be fair?

I think they should be re-united, personally.

Yeah but Karthik failed a whole series (exept for the last innings), whereas Jaffer has only failed 3, but will probably fail his fourth....

india battin g well here. go vvs! well played:)

if only we got symonds early i think the game would be ours:(

No he got in 3 times, but the fifty was the only substantial score.

I you say so....

Althoug I do have to admit I think Karthik would have scored more runs than Jaffer in the last few innings, due to Jaffer's 'Rock on the back foot, flick on the legside and drive through cover' style, wheread Karthik has all the strokes in the book (maybe the odd exception).

Plus Karthik and Dravid are good mates, so it would have been a better pairing.

I just do, lol.

Another valid point in Karthik's case is that he is a good fielder, which is something we have desperately lacked.

Yeah i agree take a look at the ashes series last year in 06/07 Alistair Cook and Andrew Strauss opened and they failed most of the time in the series and England didn't drop them.
