India in Sri Lanka 2009 (5 ODIs)

I'd pick -

  1. MS Dhoni (C) (WK)
  2. Virender Sehwag (VC)
  3. Gautam Gambhir
  4. Yuvraj Singh
  5. Suresh Raina
  6. Subramanium Badrinath
  7. Abhishekh Nayar
  8. Rohit Sharma
  9. Zaheer Khan
  10. Harbhajan Singh
  11. Munaf Patel
  12. Ishant Sharma
  13. Murali Kartik/Amit Mishra/Second Spinner
  14. Ravi Jadeja
  15. Dhawal Kulkarni

I'd go with the following XI -

Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Suresh Raina
Subramanium Badrinath
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni
Manoj Tiwary/Nayar/Ravi Jadeja/Yusuf Pathan/Rohit Sharma
Harbhajan Singh
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Sharma
Munaf Patel/Dhawal

The number 7 spot is the one for grabs. Tiwary, Pathan, and Nayar are all very explosive and can really have a whack at the death. But i'm not sure if Pathan can play a solid and composed knock if the situation demands it, I have confidence in Nayar and Tiwary. I haven't seen much of Ravi Jadeja, but from his statistics in the last year I think we can be safe to assume that he's a handy batsman but not the most explosive. His fielding is immense and his bowling is pretty good as well.

I'd like to give Dhawal a crack in international cricket. He's bowled extremely well for Mumbai this season and I think deserves a go.

I am surprised you all are thinking bout giving tendulkar rest for this series. Sehwag and Tendulkar were the only two indian batsmen who were comfortable against Mendis in Srilanka last year. Then we gave Sachin rest for ODI and you all saw what happened in ODI series. So Sachin is must for India to suceed against Mendis.

He is key against Mendis, but this series doesn't really mean much except money. I'd be really annoyed if Sachin gets injured in the SRL series and cannot play in NZL.

kick Muralis arse when he comes to bat again!

and this series will help me vote on the Mendis thread

LOL
Were you blind at that time?
In that series Sehwag and Gambhir were the only guys who reisted M&M.

I hope Piyush Chawla gets some consideration for this series.

He is not a consideration according to cricinfo.

Likely squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Virat Kohli, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja/Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan/L Balaji/Dhawal Kulkarni

Jadeja will be find of the series. Mark my word.

Official squad has been announced by BCCI today.
Couple of shockers though.I would have rested Tendulkar for this series.
As Sid mentioned good chance for Jadeja.

India squad:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk)
Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
Rohit Sharma
Yusuf Pathan
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Sharma
Munaf Patel
Ravindra Jadeja
Praveen Kumar
Irfan Pathan
Pragyan Ojha

Harbhajan is injured and surprisingly no place for Badri.

Easy Line up for India.

Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Ravindra Jadeja
Yusuf Pathan
Zaheer Khan
Ishant Sharma
Munaf Patel

So I guess this is where Yuvraj's form goes crap again. Because of Mendis. :p

He should open instead of Sachin bt Sachin will not play if hes not allowed to open. Remind me of a kid who used to bring bat when we played gully cricket and he had to be openor or else no cricket.

Haha. :)

Honestly, though, Sachin can only really make the side if he is opening. I don't think he's got the stamina to play a sheet anchor role anymore, and he definitely cannot match the youngsters on the field. His bowling may be a little useful, but he's going to be most useful as an opener.

Raina over Yuvraj and you've got yourself a good lineup.

Sid, you're playing Yusuf Pathan at 8? Haha, no thanks. His bowling isn't good enough for him to get in as a pure bowler. With that lineup we're going with 3 specialist bowlers against a side with Sangakkara, Mahela, Jayasuriya, and an inform Murali:p. I might even play Irfan instead of Yusuf.
