India in the West Indies

Indian think tank always cried experementation but I think they dont have any fresh ideas to experiment with.

Hinds opening the bowling was a good experiment (gamble) by Lara.

India lost the series purely because India went into the series completely dependent on Dravid,Yuvraj,Dhoni and Pathan.

Three of them had a poor series and its reflected in the scorecard.

Laxman should be back in the ODI team now.People cry about his fielding.

But if India can afford Sehwag,Patel,Sreesanth,Dravid (if not at slip) then why not Laxman. Infact India's so called great fielder "Raina" did more misfields than collections in the series.

Its high time now give guys like Raina,Rao,VRV,RP a break and bring in the likes of Laxman,Badani,Mongia,Ganguly,Zaheer,Kumble in.

Atleast try them out before the WC .

In Test series I expected team managment asking for Agarkar. They did during the selection meeting but were not granted maybe Dravid can ask for him now.

6 Batsmen

Bhajji has troubled the WI to some extent. I would go ahead with 3 pace attack and two spinners.
This 5-bowler thing still doesn't convince me...
You have a good point. After the batting collapses we have seen it might make sense to play defensive with 6 Batsmen.

I really dont understand any logic here.....
winning means they will be praise like anything....
loosing means they will be scolding like anything....
The logic here is losing to West Indies which is a "developing team", 4 -1 is unacceptable.
The fact that we thrashed Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England in ODIs makes it worse.
People expect great things from a great team.

If 5 batsmen fail, then on what logic would sixth batsmen do well?
I would rather have a bowler, as bowlers are less of a gamble, and can make a comeback if they want to.

Pas that thorough me again.

Well, actually The team has talent, but I feel that they are disturbed, maybe due to some reason or other.
After all, no team in cricket suffers from so much volatility.

Speaking of Agarkar, do people still want to see him out of the team? I've said time and time again, he is the best pacer in India currently. We need him, this series showed it.

true.I also supported agarkar from start. He is a amazing bowler.

There is some gossip going around that ganguly never wanted him in the team

That gossip is 100% inaccurate. I think it was ganguly who first got Agarkar into the team, and supported him all the way.
Infact, see every skipper Agarkar has played under - Azhar, Ganguly and Dravid. Also the coaches, Wright and Chappel. They all seem to like having him in the squad. None of them have had him dropped for large periods of time or try and phase him out. They all like him, and I cannot understand why the public doesn't.

on what logic are most teams out there playing 6 batsmen?

Not just in tests but ODI's as well.

I don't think Ganguly ignored Agarkar, either in ODI's or Tests. He just did not prove himself in tests, and was quite inconsistent in ODI's.

Khan OTOH was excellent in ODI's and decent in tests, so he got the nod before Agarkar.

No, It's a well known fact that ganguly supported zaheer over agarkar, while dravid supported agarkar.

Ganguly supported Zaheer for sure, but he did not ignore Agarkar. But for any other captain, Agarkar might have been forgotten long back. Thanks to Ganguly, Agarkar was still in circulation, and finally when Chappell joined with Dravid, he has slowly started realising his true potential!

But Agarkar got his first 50 wickets in ODIs quicker than anyone in the history of ODIs. Who's captaincy was he under then?

Agarkar is always questionable. When he is in form and rhythm, he is accurate beyond comprehension and always a threat. But his periods of form and rhythm are not regular, and are far from consistent. This is probably a reason that he has not grasped the Test cap that has been poked at him, so many times. However, he is still pretty young, so the future may hold better for him. I also read that Dravid/Chappell wanted Agarkar in the team, but the management chose to let the past be the past.

Choosing players who are tried and tested to be bad fielders over players who are good fielders wouldn't make sense, especially since our fielding had a major impact on this series. However, the selectors have shown that logic is not their forte.

It definitely wouldn't have hurt to keep him around, in case one of our pace-bowlers got injured. Agarkar's just a difficult kettle of fish.

I think the Indians have wasted their tour match, playing 7 bowlers, 2 wicketkeepers and 2 specialist batsman. Even with 7 bowlers antigua got to 300.
