India have elected to field first on a Dusty wicket with slightly overcast skies. Rain is forecast later in the day as the Pune weather is tending to be blow cold at this time! The ball might swing in the early stages and the Ganguly's decision goes by the fact that they have Pathan and Balaji to exploit the seam.
I Chappell (after Ganguly winning the toss): So Ganguly, what have you decided to do?
Ganguly: We will have a bowl first. The wicket looks to be a cracking pitch and chances of rain are looming. So we would like to bowl first and get some good seam movement in the early stages of the Pakistani innings.
I Chappell: Any changes in the squad?
Ganguly: Not much. Dhoni is the specialist keeper here. Yuvraj, Kaif come back to the side. Laxman is not playing here!
I Chappell: Good luck Saurav. So Inzy, elated or disappointed?
Inzy: Elated!! We would have batted first anyway on this wicket. Thanks to Saurav, thats going to happen!
I Chappell:On your squad?
Inzy: Akthar comes back to the squad. The rest, not many changes!
I Chappell: Well, good luck to you Inzy. Gentlemen, India have won the toss and have decided to field first. Over to the commentary box!
Manjrekar: Not a bad decision from India. If they can restrict Pakistan to below 250, they have a good chance of winning this one!
Rameez: Lets watch. Pakistan must be more determined after the test series loss. Lets hope for a good encounter!

Yeah, India won the series 2-1. India won the third test by 154 runs and that too on the last day!!
1st ODI has started now and Pakistan are 33/1. Salman Butt out on 2. Malik and Hameed batting!
Dont know why but suddenly, boss's CGPv2RR patch is slow... Should switch to Tutsi Beta-5 now as Pakistan are going along at just above 3 an over by the 10th over.

Pakistan have reached 50/1 at the 15 over mark. The positive for them is that they havent lost another wicket. The negative for them is that this is an ODI match and their run rate is 3.3 runs per over. The fielding restrictions are off. This might be a low scoring encounter if Pakistan do not up the run rate!

UPDATE AFTER 25 OVERS!
Pakistan still do not lose a wicket and have slightly upped their scoring. They are 87/1 after 25 overs. Shoaib Malik has reached his half century and is going on well. Yasir Hameed is not out on 27*.

Pakistan set India a target of 220 to win!
Pakistan have set a target of 220 for India to win the first ODI. They have set this target on the back of a brilliant century from the ever reliable Shoaib Malik who has been India's nemesis for long. Shoaib Malik stroked a brilliant unbeaten 107* and he was guided by Youhana and Younis Khan who literally smashed the bowlers in the end to lift Pakistan to some sort of respectability. This total looks good because the pitch looks to take more turn as the match progresses!
The Indian bowlers, except for a few, bowled well and tight. The pick of the bowlers was Anil Kumble. Harbhajan Singh was expensive today but Yuvraj Singh turned in a good spell too to stem the flow of runs!
India now need 220 runs to win this match and go up in the series 1-1. A challenging task ahead of them considering the condition of this wicket!! Pakistan can be happy with this score after their score in the 40th over!!
INDIAN INNINGS UPDATE!
India in trouble now! India have scored 83/1 off 22 overs at a rate of 3.85 per over. Boundaries are very hard to come by and the Pakistanis are putting enormous pressure on India. V Sehwag out of frustration came down the track and was stumped off Younis Khan (It seems the Pakistani line up didnt have a keeper and Md.Sami is keeping!). The required run rate is now 4.9 per over and India are certainly under pressure. Their advance slogs are not connecting at all. Should be a thriller of a game!
SECOND UPDATE
India immersing themselves more into trouble. Runs are very hard to come by. India now need a run rate of 5.07 runs per over to win this one. Sachin Tendulkar was out for 75 to Salman Butt caught by keeper Sami. Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid are at the crease fighting it out for India!
THIRD UPDATE
India still in the hunt for a win even though they have lost 5 wickets. They need 34 runs to win off 8 overs at 4.25 per over. Mohammed Kaif is batting on 13* off 6 balls and MS Dhoni is not out on 2* off 5 balls. Yuvraj was out for 12. Md. Kaif took severe attack in an Abdur Razzaq and plundered 15 runs to bring the required run rate down from 5.4 to 4.3 an over.
STILL ANYBODY'S MATCH!!! 2 more wickets (incl. that of Kaif) and Pakistan would fancy their chances! India on the other hand need to rotate the strike with the odd boundary or six!
KAIF RUNNING AWAY WITH THIS MATCH!!
Md. Kaif seems to be the star to turn this match for India. India now need 27 runs off 7 overs at 3.86 runs. But Pakistan would be foolish to throw it all away now. They need to pick wickets immediately!

Kaif was out for 18 and Dhoni followed him soon after but India are still favorites to win this match. India need 12 runs off 5 overs. In a thrilling encounter, India beat Pakistan by 1 wicket with over 3 overs to spare in the first ODI encounter at Pune. Pakistan set a target of 220 for India to win.
India started off slowly reaching 60/1 off 15 overs. They then slowly started losing wickets due to the pressure exerted by the Pakistani spinners esp. Salman Butt who picked up 5 wickets. But Kaif, Yuvraj, Dravid and the lower order kept scoring runs at a good pace that they were always in the hunt. In the end they won with 1 wicket to spare!
Most of the Pakistani bowlers bowled very tight and they must be disappointed with this defeat. They bowled brilliantly and always kept the pressure on India until Kaif came and relieved them all with some gorgeous hits to the fence!
So, India now lead this 6 match ODI series 1-0. Pakistan need not be disappointed with this as they bowled very well and batted well. An exciting and close ODI series looms large!! Match Report and Presentation Ceremony to follow!
