India Team Discussion

Was about to post the same.

With the next series being against Sri Lanka, it a wise decision by BCCI to take their time. Maybe more of an experimental side can be used (replacing Jaddu and Ashwin).

Middle-order lacks consistency compared to top order. Also I would like to see Hardik Pandya playing at #5.
No way I believe he isn't good enough to bat that high. He is more of a finisher alongside Kedar Jadhav. Here's a lineup I would like to see ahead of the World Cup:
1 Rahane/Rohit
2 Pant
3 Kohli
4 Dhoni
5 Manish Pandey/Raina
6 Kedar Jadhav
7 Krunal Pandya/Hardik
8 Bhuvi
9 Umesh/ Bumrah
10 Shami/ Bumrah
11 Kuldeep
Push Dhoni to 4, he seems capable of playing big knocks up there, and I really want to see Pant to open. He is an aggressive batsman up front, and yesterday he showed glimpses of what he can do. Not a big fan of Raina, but he is a middle overs specialist for sure and Manish Pandey is also a very good player. I am excited to see Krunal Pandya, he has done well in list A matches and has performed aganist top class players in the IPL. He is certainly a candidate to replace Jaddu. He can bat and bowl.

Reading between the lines, this is an explosive interview from Ganguly without sounding like it. He has basically issued a notice to Kohli stating "once we select this new coach, you have to put up with him till the WC and there is no going back". And the way he gave credit to Kohli for staying away from the interview process and not sending in any names, he basically stated that "the decision is firmly and ONLY in the hands of the CAC". The talk with Kohli once he returns, will be to tell him that "you put up with this coach or risk losing your place in the side".

Maybe India need to have backup options for captain in case Kohli needs to be dispensed. I know some might lambast at me for saying this, but with Kohli being the kind of person he is, we always knew he might or might not work out. And no single person should hold the kind of reins that Kohli holds right now (or the way Dhoni held it when he was captain). Having a very strong vice captain is an absolute must (something that India last enjoyed when Rahul Dravid was a great vice captain to Saurav Ganguly; and then led India himself to a record 17 successful chases in a row in ODI's).

lol it'd be pretty darn funny to have Viru as a coach, imagine him leaking details through his twitter, how funny and entertaining the press conferences would be. Won't be surprised if something goes wrong and he comes out in the open given how straightforward he is. It'd be hell lotta fun to have him as a coach.

Agree with @SaiSrini, about a backup captain. From my understanding it seems as if there are two forces trying to pull the other down. When we had a selection of coach previously, we never heard about captain will give his input or not. Why all of sudden its so important for Ganguly to specify Kohli hasnt given his input and only CAC will decide? This is all a big game that is being played by BCCI. BCCI did not want Kumble to stay on as he was pretty vocal about Domestic players being paid more, he was vocal about the team getting payed more. BCCI could not lose that money or give more money hence Kumble via Kohli's hand was fired a shot. Its good Ganguly said that Kohli has to be ok with the coach they have selected but in my opinion if CAC with Ganguly Tendulkar and Laxman decide this who the hell is Kohli to say no? If there is a surprise test in colleges or schools, even if we are not ok, we have to freaking give it. The school or colleges wont be asking we will be giving surprises quizzes, be prepared ok?

So going by reports Sehwag's vision was most liked by CAC and he is front runner for coaching job

I won't be surprised if Sehwag lands up the job. After all, we live in the times when Donald Trump is the president of the USA. :D

Will Viru suck up to Kohli? Viru has a mind of his own. If he and Kohli are not on the same page, it will be fireworks and the media will have a field day for sure. Will Viru curb his Twitter comedy that he does almost always these days? And he is a guy who does not believe in curbing his natural instincts (he is so popular for this phrase). In comparison to Viru, Shastri can look like god. :rolleyes

I would really prefer Lalchand Rajput but seeing how this team right now we have all youngsters (who believe in show off (Tattoos, haircuts, beards)) he will be eaten alive.

From a POV of coaching credentials, none of these clowns can touch Tom Moody.
Lalchand Rajput has quite a good credential. He coached Indian team for the T20 WC in 2007 until Gary came in 2008. He has coached Afghanistan Cricket team since 2016 and we know how good Afghanistan has been in recent years. He has also coached Mumbai Indians but was removed after the Sreesanth slap gate where he laughed when Harbhajan slapped Sree.

Tom Moody should be the first preference and Rajput next. But looks like both of them will be ignored.
