India Team Discussion

Although I am very happy to see Zaheer Khan being the bowling coach and Rahul Dravid the batting consultant in overseas tours, I am simply shocked how things have been handled. Ganguly mentions that coach will be announced after Kohli comes back and BCCI announces coach the very next day. If I were Ganguly, Tendulkar & Laxman, I would just resign. Indian Cricket does not deserve them. BCCI has just made another mockery of itself. As much as I hate supreme courts interference in BCCI, BCCI is just letting Supreme Court proved right that BCCI is one arrogant, chaotic board. Also this just proves that Kohli > Cricket in India and Shastri just won a battle against Ganguly as he had openly criticised him during last coach selection. If things dont change Indian cricket fans will just die. As @SaiSrini said once Dhoni retires the last of fans will just loose interest. For me the only person I am looking for in Indian cricket is the calm Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. I will stop watching meaningless ODI's (bilaterals) & T20's.

Hah, this is a smart move by BCCI. They brought the fan favourite Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid to cover up the horrendous decision of making Shastri the head coach. However, it was very clear since the day they reopened coaching applications that Virat wanted Shastri in the coaching role so can't really blame the CAC. Again, Tom Moody has been ROBBED of a job that he should have got without a doubt.

As I said, love the appointment of Zaheer as the bowling coach since there wont be any language barriers with the bowlers and Zaheer has played that role through out the later part of his career. Dravid's appointment as a batting consultant for away tours is also very good to see.

The only issue I have with Ravi Shastri is that he has a big mouth. He doesn't seem to be diplomatic and just speaks his mind, often not giving respect to the opposition when needed. And he along with Kohli is like adding fuel to fire (not that I'm saying Kohli follows in the same vein) but the aggressiveness is pretty much visible in both.

Zaheer is a good addition. Not sure about Dravid though. The kind of treatment that was given to Kumble, I wonder what they would do to Dravid if they start finding him irritating.

I think Kumble and Dravid are very different in terms of personality. Kumble is more likely to demand his decision and expect the players to follow it. Where as Dravid will more likely to be providing suggestions rather than demanding the player to perform the suggestion if that makes sense. I don't see Dravid having any problems with the players.

As I was typing this, I just realised that what is the role of Sanjay Bangar now? Is he still the batting coach or have they released him?

Hmm interesting set up this. Anything involving Zaheer and Rahul Dravid I can get behind. Ravi will control things well at the top, excellent choice made by BCCI and as much I wanted Sehwag there this setup pretty damn good.

Dravid goes by the book though but at the same time he always got his emotions in check![DOUBLEPOST=1499803538][/DOUBLEPOST]Its a new era for Indian cricket indeed

If Bangar continues, I am pretty sure that Ravi Shastri will be just have a post of a name and his role will be similar to his last role Director.

Bangar, I believe, is the batting coach. Dravid is just a batting consultant on away tours. Anyways Dravid will be preoccupied with the India U-19 and the India-A teams as he is the head coach there.

I am excited to see what Zaheer brings to the table. Guys like Umesh, Shami, Kumar and Bumrah are already showing good potential and should hugely benefit further from having Zak around. And as @Aalay said, this decision to bring in Zaheer is a damage mitigation to cover up for Shastri. But with the WC in England, Zaheer can help with the swing part and guide the bowlers. If Dravid can travel with the senior team for as many ODI series possible, it would be great. Then Shastri can just function as director, and act as the 'baby sitter' for the spoilt brat of an elephant in the dressing room. :rolleyes

Good to see Zak alongside Dravid joining the team as bowling coach and batting consutant (Overseas) respectively. Also i don't think Zaheer will be available for full time as well detalis reagrding his availability depends on the tours and this will possibly be revealed later. I remember reading a similar article about him last year when he was approached as a bowling coach but demanded more salary and said will not work as full time due to personal commitments. Also the one thing that the combination of Dravid - Zaheer can bring is to overdo the 'Horses for Courses' theory like they did for for DD in the Ipl for the last couple of years which cost them the final four spot.

High hopes for Zaheer Khan. He has worked with Bhuvi, Shami and Umesh when he was with the Indian team as a player and I think he'll do a great job in an environment where he is well respected. He will be able to guide the fast bowlers on overseas tours espacially.

Very well decision by appointing Zaheer Khan and Dravid. :clap Its always good when you give your legends the rightful role they deserves. With Zaheer's experience, Indian bowlers can learn a lot from, Dravid was masterclass and can help in stabilizing the middle order. Shastri Head Coach? No Comments...

The good thing with Ravi being at the helm is that the captain respects him! Ravi can keep things under control and motivate the team whilst Dravid/Zaheer tie up the technical aspects of the game. The crop of fast bowlers in India is very poor and the batsmen not far behind, with proper coaching and development these guys can turn into a formidable unit that does not rely on results manipulation by the most powerful board in the game!

A lot more people now warming up to the possibility that the BCCI had a big hand to play in the ouster of Anil Kumble and made it look like Kumble left by himself and that Kohli was used as a pawn in the process.

I've been saying since it all broke out that the leaks have been coming from certain sections of the BCCI about Kumble. Everytime something good comes up about Kumble, some unnamed BCCI official comes out and speaks in a tone that puts Kumble under the bus. Pretty sure Kumble ruffled some heavy feathers in the BCCI that he was dispensed off. Shastri being the proverbial chamcha (side kick) of BCCI, was preferred.

To be very honest, I cannot understand how anyone can appreciate or applaud the current scenario.

First of all, The CAC has been made to look absolutely stupid! I mean, honestly, none of those guys need money to live a good life and I for one can't comprehend how all of them didn't resign after the PR sham that took place in this week. But, I guess our needs are endless and money can't buy power.

Secondly, the line 'Tendulkar encouraged Shastri to enrol' is a pitiful attempt to garner public support. I can pretty much guarantee that had this been a normal, routine process Moody would have been elected and if it was left to the CAC it would have been Sehwag. I said this at the absolute outset when Kumble was appointed that having 3 chaps elect a coach in which one of the candidates is a friend is a terrible conflict of interest. This choice has been made by Kohli.

Thirdly, people are jumping up and down about Zak and Dravid but honestly both those guys are good enough to be head coach and not these fancy names they have been given. It's in my view a way to keep Shastri under some sort of check! Add to this, Sanjay Bangar as a batting coach for home tours? There's just too much 'coach'ing going on for my liking. It's apparent that Virat Kohli wants to call the shots tactically and there's no need for these high profile names to be around. I for one will not be able to tolerate any disrespect directed towards these two!

On one hand, we say there shouldn't be too much 'coaching' and on the other hand we have opted for a buffet of cricketing brains and we are led by a single minded leader who won't tolerate a difference in opinion. It might work out, but I smell a recipe for disaster. I much prefer the standard procedure of electing a coach and then him bringing his support staff. Shastri belongs in a mental facility, a cricket coach is a long long shot!

Shastri has the support if Kohli! Do you want a repeat if the Greg Chappel saga?
