Virat Kohli yet to reach his peak as a batsman, says Ravi Shastri | The Indian Express

Agree with Ravi here. All jokes aside Virat to me is the perfect combination of Lara/Sachin. Completely of the view that in the next 5 yrs or so he'll reach his peak but captaincy is an unwanted burden for him to carry because the Indians will always have a weak bowling setup due to the volume of slog cricket they play and pitch type.

How much better can that man get?

For me, he is steps ahead of Sachin(equal to Sachin in the mid to late 90's) and any other ODI batsmen that I have seen bat. He has made the number 3 slot his for a long time to come, just hope the amount of cricket he plays doesn't affect his chances of getting injured.

I agree also he has already surpassed Sachin. My view though Gavaskar was the best Indian batsman we've witnessed and I am afraid the likes of Kohli/Root may never be truly tested due to the advantages offered to batsmen and the lack of quality spin or fearsome fastbowling.

Well it's hard to say if Kohli is way ahead to surpassing Sachin as a batsmen. Look at the quality of attacks that are faced by both batsmen. Sachin used to face Waqar, Wasim Akram, Donald, Curtly Ambrose, Walsh, Muralitharan, Warne, Mushtaq Ahmed, Dominic Cork, McGrath whom don't compare to today's bowlers who mostly light-years behind from the bowlers Sachin faced. Kohli is facing Boult, Southee, Anderson, Broad, Morkel, Steyn, Malinga, Amir, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon. My point is Sachin is still the better batsman in my mind because he faced more quality attacks, the attacks Kohli is facing today are quite good, but never as good as those guys. Anderson and Steyn are perhaps can be called "quality" because of the way they have bowled. Kohli is a very good batman and can beat Sachin's record maybe, but at the end of the day, Sachin, in my mind is still the better batsman.

Fair enough points and I agree fully, however I thought Sachin to be an average batsman hence my assesment.

Couldnt agree more though the bowling in this era is quite subpar to what we've seem in the past.

Nailed it! :thumbs I'll just add one more bowler of that time and that was Akhtar. That era's quality bowlers are once in centuries perhaps...

CoA has approved Ravi Shastri's appointment, but Dravid and Zaheer's appointment are not approved yet
Rahul Dravid: Ravi Shastri's appointment approved but no decision on Rahul Dravid, Zaheer Khan - Times of India

If by any chance Dravid and Zaheer are not approved by CoA to function as batting and bowling consultants respectively, CAC should stage a walkout, tender their resignations and show their middle finger to the BCCI and CoA. The likes of Sachin, Saurav and Laxman just do not deserve this. They have been royally disrespected and treated badly in this entire fiasco. And Rahul Dravid should do the same and put down his resignation papers and quit the coach position for the U-19 and India-A teams. All of Kumble, Saurav, Sachin, Laxman, Rahul, are being treated shabbily. Without these guys, Indian cricket would not be where it is today. The popularity that these guys brought to Indian cricket is why everyone who is involved with Indian cricket today, exists where they are. Kapil Dev and co might have won the World Cup that gave Indian cricket the push it needed, but it was Sachin and Kumble in the 90's and subsequently the entry of Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman that propelled Indian cricket to great heights of popularity.

What an absolute farce this is. COA has been nothing short of an embarrassment in handling this situation. They are seriously doubting the appointments of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan? I totally agree with Sai's comment about if the appointment of Dravid and Zaheer is not approved by COA, all three members of CAC should just resign. These guys have lived cricket throughout their life and they are being questioned by an economist? Give me a break!

fearsome tweak off BCCI. Another supporter lost and not going to be following this Indian team full of egos and attitudes. This is just not the way things work and at whose expense? Ravi tweaking Shastri? My hatred towards him has never been this high. Go to hell, Dravid Zak, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman should just resign and do other things. They do not deserve this
