India Team Discussion

Training under Dravid? Sorry, but that totally makes me angry. What the hell is Shastri being paid for then if Dravid is doing all the dirty work? Considering how Kumble was treated, I wouldn't take the option if I was RSD but then I'm not selfless like him.
They wont have an option. India A tour of England Lions is already scheduled. Dravid is going to be there as it is. Yes I dont want him to be treated how Kumble was but one good thing is Kumble incident was bought in public, I will say that no one will in right sense dare to do that again. After the fixing sage of Azharudin and Wc 2007 Kumble incident was the lowest of low in Indian cricket. Kohli might have few fans but when it comes to legend India will not tolerate it. Kohli got away with it but wont get away everytime.

Call me mad, but Kohli is the most powerful man in cricket right now. Dravid, Zak were appointed alongside this group of management by the CAC but they got trashed in 5 days. B Arun came in as full time coach and that bloke publicly stated Bumrah was our best test bowler when a 5 year old child would have told you that was Bhuvi. So, I really don't think anything or anyone can touch Virat Kohli. The last such powerful bloke was SRT but his greatness was to accept ideas from outside the spectrum and grow. Kohli is like Rambo without brains. He just has a gun and he will fire whatever comes in his way.

One thing I will say about Virat- I am slowly leaning towards the thought that he is at least as great a batter as SRT and I might get sleighed for it but he's IMHO already better in the shorter formats.

And that has helped him a lot by seeing his performances in SaF. He should continue playing along with few others. Forgot about Vijay, he should be going too. Also Kohli and management need to decide what they want from KL Rahul. Which format is he going to play. I would personally play Vijay Rahul for tests, Dhawan Rohit for ODI's and Dhawan Rahul for T20's.
I think it will likely be Dhawan for all three formats, with Rahul as the 3rd opener in all formats but T20, being 4th opener. Rahul had a underwhelming SA tour, India really need something from him and Vijay. Not a big fan of Dhawan in all three formats, even if he made runs in the ODIs in SA. Rahul and Dhawan seem to both have flaws against good fast bowling, and against the swinging ball. I would prefer Rahul, but IMO he should look to get a county contract as well. It might be Dhawan as first choice opener and Rahul as the reserve.

That Ashwin tweet was definitely in poor taste. And he trying to cover it up by terming it as a "joke" was an expected evasive approach. It's evident that he got hurt by Gibbs' response (even though it was clearly jest) and tried to get back at him by hitting below the belt. I had him pegged as someone who is known for making witty comebacks, but this time it surely backfired on him.

Saw the Ashwin-Gibbs spat. First of all, who at Nike asked Ashwin to promote running shoes?

Secondly, Indian cricketers have a very short fuse these days. Their insecurities are enormous and they lack humility and class. Ashwin has been a bonafide moron (can't use the term I want to use here) from day 1. To incriminate someone for something as silly as this when they've served their punishment shows what a small person Ashwin is. May be take a lesson of class from Inzy? To this date we laugh at him and he does so himself.

But, morons like him will continue to get support from our billions in the name of national pride.

On a completely separate note- Just like I picked up Steve Smith for his IPL price tag, I just don't understand how this bloke gets 7.5 crores? Only KXIP can pay such a price for such a pathetic limited overs cricketer. To think Chahal and Kuldeep went for lesser than him is even more mind numbing!

I completely agree with people who say that Ashwin's response to Gibbs and that 'match fixing' jibe was in pretty poor taste. Ashwin certainly could've responded back to Gibbs with some other jibe or just kept quiet. But frankly I am surprised that his IPL price tag is coming up for discussion in a negative way. First of all, this is IPL, a domestic tournament, and not selection for the national team. And Ashwin is still the No. 2 spinner in test cricket and a damn useful batsman. And Ashwin has made his career out of the IPL, and has 100 wkts to his name just in the IPL. Last IPL, he sat out with a sports hernia and it was considered to be a big loss for Pune Supergiants until Sundar came in and covered it up well. Ashwin is the bowler who made the trend of "spinners opening the bowling in T20 and bowling in Powerplay" popular. He is still very much expected to bowl really tight overs in a T20 and squeeze the opposition.

Ashwin is still very much a hotshot in IPL domain. And as I say this, Ashwin has been appointed as the captain of Kings XI Punjab team that has players like Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, etc.

I am agree with you

Agarwal becomes the first Indian to go past 700 runs in List A tournament.

Agarwal so far in this season-

Ranji Trophy - 1160 Runs at 105.45 with 5 Hundreds.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy - 258 Runs at Strike Rate 145
Vijay Hazare Trophy - 700 Runs at 100.00 with 3 Hundreds.

Yet to find a place in Indian Team. Should have been selected for the Tri series.

PS:I didn't calculate the stats. Saw somewhere.

True. They could've rested Dhawan also and picked Mayank Agarwal. Dhawan is again going to continue to amass runs and probably it would make sense to take Mayank and either groom him or Rahul as a solid backup for the opening spot.

Teams with icon player, mentor and coach:

Mumbai North West : Icon player Rohit Sharma (Rs 6 lakh); mentor Amol Muzumdar; coach Omkar Salvi.

Mumbai North : Icon player Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 7 lakh); mentor Sandeep Patil; coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu.

Mumbai North Central: Icon player: Shreyas Iyer (Rs 5 lakh); mentor Sameer Dighe; coach Vinayak Samant.

Mumbai South: Icon player: Abhishek Nayar (Rs 4 lakh); coach Amit Dani.

Mumbai North East: Icon player : Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 7 lakh); mentor Lalchand Rajput; coach Atul Ranade.

Mumbai South Central: Icon player: Siddesh Lad (Rs 4 lakh); mentor Vinod Kambli; coach Vinod Raghavan.

I understand the need of having mini leagues of sort in each state or city but using international stars and increasing their fatigue is just wrong. BCCI should stop using players for every league that gets created.

Good article on Jaydev Unadkat eyeing ODI berth with Indian team

If Unadkat can have a really strong show in Sri Lanka with the Nidahas T20 series, it will give him a strong backing to enter the ODI team as the 4th seamer behind Bhuvi, Bumrah and Shami. With the likes of Yadav and Ishant not favored in limited overs formats, India will need a good backup pacer to complement Bhuvi, Bumrah and Shami. We will need 5 solid seamers to travel to England for the World Cup and the likes of Yadav and Ishant should not be favored as they are more of 'hit the deck hard' kind of bowlers who would likely not be as effective in English conditions. Unadkat with his left arm variety and swing friendly nature, would be ideal. Our World Cup seam attack looks like this so far:

Bhuvi
Bumrah
Shami
