India Team Discussion

BTW, what happened to Jay and Ganguly's BCCI terms? Weren't they expired and they were supposed to be fresh elections this year

Still see them both working in the same capacity
You can't question the authority of Shah. He is the supreme leader. A piece of paper can't decide his authority.

Looks like there is a court case pending in Supreme Court LOL, and its on hold until next hearing

Knowing our Supreme Leader's control over our judiciary, and I think baby Shah and Dada will be able to complete 2-3 terms before the verdict is declared.

In all honesty, the Lodha Reforms screwed up cricket in India. It was the period of Lodha during which the BCCI was seen as a lesser force in world cricket+ Ex Prez Shahsank Manohar too, tightened the screws at the ICC. Basically, we lost the clout that we once held under Dalmiya and Bindra.

Thankfully, thats all coming back!

Under the Lodha reforms, an office bearer can serve a period of 6 consecutive years (BCCI+state associations), post which they need to go into a cooling period of 3 years. The max that any official can serve is 9 years at the BCCI + 9 years at the state level. However, after every 6 years, the official needs to cool down.

This rule meant that Ganguly would serve as BCCI prez for less than a year and Shah has already extinguished his run at the GCA. To a large extent, it does not make sense to me. I agree having tenure limits will help- my opinion is to have Ganguly and Shah serve out their 6 years ,post which they are in a way rendered ineligible at the board.

So, the team is in the World Cup-for all practical purposes, out of it, unless they go hammer and tongs and have the results of Afg, NZ sway their way.

That said, the selectors would be meeting today to discuss the future of the Indian team, the captain, the squad for the T20 home series vs NZ. I just think it sheer bad timing and this decision could be deferred until the 8th. But hey, this is the BCCI!

I don't think it is anything wrong. Practically looking there is no future in this tournament for India and its better to look forward already. That doesn't mean we won't be playing this tournament with some interest. It would rather be shameful to lose to either of Afghanistan, Scotland or Namibia for this management especially when they are leaving.

First pic is from a movie where a new coach tell some players with ego that " That in every there can be only one villain"

Second pic is from an ad where Dravid started shouting "I am the villain of this town'.

So... the rumors are that Rahane is being axed from the vice captaincy post in test cricket and that Rohit Sharma is likely to lead India in the first test against New Zealand while Virat Kohli takes a break! Not a bad decision IMHO, as Rahane's batting inconsistency has stretched for far too long!

I kinda wish India gives Rohit Sharma the captaincy in all formats and let the likes of Rahane and Kohli focus on their batting. I am hoping that with Rahul Dravid taking over as coach, Rahane should have a great mentor in the dressing room to really get a hold over his mental issues. Both Pujara and Rahane should hopefully enjoy the leadership of Dravid as these two didn't seem like they felt comfortable under the duo of Kohli-Shastri. And notwithstanding Kohli's record in tests, still would relieve him of captaincy there to let him focus on his batting, now that Rohit Sharma has cemented his place in the test side.

I have a feeling that the selectors/BCCI are going to keep Rohit insecure about his captaincy post and not anoint him as the permanent captain (seeing the way they casually announced the T20I squad today for the NZ home series). If that's true, it would be a terrible thing to do, not letting Rohit feel the security of being the permanent captain and not giving him a defined timeline to lead the team till a younger captain is groomed for long term prospects.

KL Rahul is not captaincy material at all. Shreyas Iyer should ideally be the incumbent. Rahul and Pant should be left alone. Pant is not a Dhoni. But I feel Rahul and Pant are being looked at as future options.
