India Team Discussion

Bangladesh-West Indies world cup final IMO

actually it would be hilarious if that happened just because it would confuse everyone

So we have Shane Warne on the TV and Harsha Bogle on radio

Why is it impossible to escape from bad commentators

e: They've played the voice of the third umpire for the review which I don't think they did before: literally the only good directing decision from the TV people at this World Cup and something that other TV companies should do.

Isn't that more a playing conditions thing rather than something the TV guys have a say in? If anything it might have been an accident, as they haven't done it in the other matches

They had a graphic with "Voice of Third Umpire"" on it that I guess they wouldn't have prepared if they weren't planning to do it.

Its not something that's completely foreign in sports, they do it for TMO in Rugby and I'm sure with the video ref in League...

dude doesn't get jokes. it's hilarious.

I think it was a TV Broadcast decision, I recall hearing something during one of the final pool matches making mention of the fact we would hear the On Field and Third Umpires communicate (Ala; Rugby League) but it's only been the third umpire we hear... It's actually a really useful tool for the TV viewer (and the non-regular watcher) as they get to hear what they're asking for and give direct commands to the TV crew as to what they want to see, hear or happen. I prefer that to some random commentator try to read tea-leaves of what the third umpire might be looking for. Allows the viewer to make a decision, based on the professional umpires requests. It's cool.

Just want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Indian posters, sadly it has come to an end, but thank you guys for the posts, excellent posting guys.

Jadeja, Rahaney, Dhawan and all the fastbowlers barring Shami must be removed and exiled from the team if India are to move forward.

Dhawan gave an excellent start today, and on any other day, he could have gone on to make a big score. Now that no other team has the balls to prepare wickets that favour fast bowlers* against India, Dhawan would be extremely useful. Umesh and Mohit, imho, were pretty impressive. They might have conceded a lot, but if India stick with this trio and Bhuvi as a backup, they can actually win the next world cup or two simply because the pacers would have more experience and chemistry. Rahane is probably India's best batsman outside Asia, so not sure why he should go. Jadeja, simply dont know what happened to him.

Jadeja- yes, cause as MSD acknowledged today, he is simply a bowler. India needs an all-rounder in that position. I do not mind if the AR is a spinner or medium pacer, but this guy has to bat. Binny maybe. Or a Tamil Nadu player by the name Baba Aparajith would do.

Rahane- for me,he was the best batsman of the tour for India. Rahane has shown that he can adapt well to foreign conditions. He is a bit like Dravid and the ideal person to bat in a tough situation. In ODIs, let this guy open as he rotates the strike and can nullify the new ball.

Rohit Sharma has to go. Slow starts, eats up too many deliveries and he is consistently 'inconsistent'. Rohit needs to improve his game by leaps and bounds. Play him in India and this flat track bully can probably score a few more doubles. But definitely not a good long termer. If you view him closely, he has been a part of the team for the last 4 years and has failed miserably overseas.

I dont know why you are blasting the fast bowlers. They did a good job during the World Cup. Even today, our bowlers did extremely well to restrict Aus to 327 when it seemed that they would post close to 400. Mohit was the pick of the lot for me. Bharat Arun has done a great job with the lads here and I do hope this continues.

Raina needs to go. Again he is a flat track bully.

First of all, I would like to say that we had a very good WC. Yes, we did not reach the final and ended up 3rd but according to me, we are better than most teams (we couldn't see how we fared against NZ but the NZ on current form would still be a 50-50 for us). Currently Australia, NZ and India are neck to neck at the top of world ODI rankings (I mean not the official ICC rankings; this is according to actual strength of the teams). India have a few flaws which can be easily fixed and if done correctly, can definitely improve their standing a lot more.

1. Jadeja - the only reason why he was persisted with is because of his experience and it was too early to throw Axar into the ring during this tournament. Now that its over, Jadeja has to go. Axar is an option, but I would either look for a spinner who gets more turn with the ball or look for a medium pace allrounder (thereby looking for another specialist spinner). Ashwin with that super successful WC has nailed his spot for quite sometime now as India's lead spinner. He needs another specialist spinner to support him in the middle overs.

2. Lower order batting - This can be tied to the above point, but India need to find some lower order hitter so that Dhoni (if he continues for sometime) can find a lot more freedom to go for the accelerator sooner. If we had one more lower order hitter after Jadeja, maybe Dhoni would have started playing more shots in the semifinal against Australia. He wanted to stay in the game for longer, and in the process the asking rate got up to him. It was essentially a checkmate situation that Australia put him in, and he didn't have answers. I wish one of the Pathan brothers makes a big comeback and help us beef up our lower order batting. Preferably Irfan because he is a specialist seamer. And good thing is, he is now a CSK guy which means he could hopefully get more support from Dhoni.

I think the other areas look fine. We saw how Yadav responded when he was persisted with. Yes, he continues to be wayward but with consistent backing, the guy can really crank it up. I am waiting to see Aaron make a strong comeback to the side at some point in the future. These fast bowlers can be wayward, but with more games under their belt and more fine tuning, they can improve the line/length and combine it with their natural raw pace. India's big success this tournament was their bowlers (Yadav, Shami, Mohit and Ashwin). The continuance of fine tuning is what needs to be done.

The next interesting thing now, will be who replaces Fletcher as the coach. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur recently said that they have to start looking for a new coach. Hope this time, they do not mess it up like before. Shastri needs to be relieved (on a more lighter note, I missed the guy a lot in the commentary box esp. his now famous cliched lines - also Shastri in the comm box is considered a lucky mascot for India in ICC tournaments). But truth be said, Shastri brought a lot of strength and competitiveness to this Indian side since he took over as team director. BCCI need to find someone similar for the head coach role. I dont think a change is needed for Bangar, Sridhar and Arun's spots for now.

Yes, we did not reach the final and ended up 3rd but according to me
I'd say India finished 4th - the South Africa that played New Zealand would beat the India that played Australia. Sure the result of their pool match went the other way, but on the basis of their semi-final performance - only one team went down fighting.

I wish they'd do a real third place playoff though.
